Context and Job Requirements
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher to join our team at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF). As a Post-doctoral fellow, you will be responsible for participating in the operation of the ID10 surface scattering station, contributing to ongoing research programmes, and developing your own research programme.
The ID10 station is dedicated to studies of hard and soft condensed matter surfaces and interfaces using X-ray reflectivity, grazing incidence WAXS and SAXS, and auxiliary methods like X-ray fluorescence and X-ray absorption near edge structure. You will work closely with beamline scientists to develop data analysis methods and sample environments specific to the station.
Key Responsibilities
- Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, or a closely related subject obtained within the last three years.
- Strong aptitude for instrumentation and data analysis.
- Knowledge of research topics relevant to solid-state physics, surface science, and liquid surfaces.
- Experience in applying scattering techniques (X-ray or neutron scattering) to study soft matter or related systems.
- Data analysis skills and programming using Python or MATLAB.
- Ability to interact with multi-disciplinary staff and facility users.
- Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF).
Working Conditions
We offer a contract of 18 months, renewable for a further 6 or 18-month period. You will have the opportunity to work in a vibrant city, in the heart of the Alps, and Europe's Green Capital 2022. Our workplace is designed to support your quality of life, and we offer a competitive compensation and allowances package, including financial support for your relocation to Grenoble.
