Job Description

As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the ESRF, you will play a key role in the operation of the ID10 surface scattering station, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to studies of hard and soft condensed matter surfaces and interfaces.

The successful candidate will participate in ongoing research programmes, provide support to external users as a local contact, and develop their own research programme in collaboration with beamline scientists.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of data analysis methods and sample environments specific to the beamline.
  • Support the operation of the beamline, including the setup and maintenance of experiments.
  • Collaborate with beamline scientists to advance research in surface science and condensed matter physics.
  • Develop and implement new research projects, including the design and execution of experiments.
  • Communicate research results through publications and presentations.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, or a closely related subject obtained within the last three years.
  • Strong aptitude for instrumentation and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of research topics relevant to solid-state physics, surface science, and liquid surfaces.
  • Experience in applying scattering techniques (X-ray or neutron scattering) to study soft matter or related systems.
  • Data analysis skills and programming using Python or MATLAB.
  • Ability to interact with multi-disciplinary staff and facility users.
  • Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF).
