Job Opportunity: Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Facility Maintenance Engineer

AWE is seeking a skilled Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Facility Maintenance Engineer to join our team at the EPURE facility in France. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for delivering professional engineering services for the upkeep of all assets and equipment.

This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with our esteemed French and UK colleagues and be part of a groundbreaking project. You will be based in France for up to 5 years, supporting the engineering team and contributing to the development of Safe Systems of Work and Work instructions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply technical knowledge for engineered systems and structures
  • Identify and escalate business risk where applicable to plant and engineered systems
  • Make evidence-based engineering decisions to solve technical problems
  • Bring C&I engineering skills to the team, including electrical distribution, functional safety, PLCs, machinery safety, intrinsic safety, BMS, and specialist instrumentation
  • Provide hands-on support for UK Trials at EPURE
  • Contribute towards the development of Safe Systems of Work and Work instructions
  • Acquire and maintain the necessary competencies to perform this role
  • Develop awareness of team, function, and company processes and technical capabilities
  • Participate in collaborative working relationships as part of a team (internal/external)
Requirements:
  • Willingness to relocate to France and live within 1 hour of the Valduc site
  • Ability to communicate in the French Language (training will be provided)
  • DELFA2 certification ahead of deployment to work in the high hazard area
  • Operate in workplaces of substantial hazard (radiological, explosive, toxic)
  • Comfortable working in the defence industry in support of the UK nuclear deterrent
  • Undertake secondary roles for the UK Senior Technical operator in support of UK operations
  • Fitness to wear a respirator and work in a radiation-controlled area

Please note that when first appointed in the role, you will be based in the UK initially for a period of 6-9 months before being deployed to France. Once deployed to France, you will follow the site standard 5-day working week. At the end of the assignment, you will be re-deployed back to AWE in the UK. Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
