Job Title: Quantum Science and Technology Consultant

UNESCO is seeking a highly skilled consultant to support the implementation of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology. The successful candidate will play a key role in the technical preparation of the Opening Ceremony and coordinate various initiatives and activities under the UNESCO basic sciences and engineering programme.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and oversee the technical aspects of the Opening Ceremony, including audio-visual requirements, stage setup, and coordination with all other UNESCO technical teams.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, including speakers, sponsors, and participants, to ensure smooth execution of the event.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed timeline for the preparation and execution of the Opening Ceremony.
  • Provide detailed progress and final reports for the Opening Ceremony.
  • Lead and coordinate the development and implementation of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology related programmes and activities.
  • Identify or respond to emerging issues, and develop strategies, programmes, or activities aligned with the mission of UNESCO and the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology.
  • Engage and liaise with relevant stakeholders for project implementation and for fostering partnerships and fund-raising opportunities.
  • Coordinate with UNESCO Science Networks, such as Category 2 Centres and UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Networks, to develop projects or webinars aligned with the mission of the International Year and provide assistance to the Centres and Chairs as requested.
  • Prepare regular progress reports and a final report on the status of initiatives and activities, highlighting achievements and identifying any challenges.
Requirements:
  • Advanced degree in Basic Sciences, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of Proven experience in event management and logistics coordination.
  • Experience in UN systems.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in working with diverse stakeholders, including academia, industry and government organizations.
  • Knowledge of quantum science and technology is highly desirable.
  • Excellent knowledge (spoken and written) of English.
