Context:
The Project Operations division specializes in process licensing, designing, and supplying process furnaces and modular units for refineries and petrochemical facilities. This division oversees the execution of projects from design through to client start-up.
The Engineering department is tasked with conducting engineering studies for these projects and providing technical support for the development of new equipment offered by the company.
Responsibilities:
As a Process Safety and Environmental Specialist, you will play a crucial role in all phases of process technology licensing, focusing on industrial safety related to processes licensed by Axens.
Acting as a technical authority on process safety and environmental matters, your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting process engineers and clients by ensuring that principles of intrinsic safety and preventive measures are integrated into the development of Process Books.
- Participating in HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA reviews upon client request.
- Occasionally supporting engineers from Technical Assistance and Start-up teams.
- Validating safety considerations for process documentation, including Process Study Guidelines.
- Ensuring compliance with new safety and environmental regulations in our designs.
- Incorporating feedback on safety and environmental protection into our processes.
- Updating and proposing improvements to specifications related to safety devices.
- Collaborating with HSE design specialists on modular projects and proprietary equipment.
- Maintaining a comprehensive library of process safety information.
- Proposing modifications to process plans to align with evolving safety and environmental regulations.
- Utilizing experience from start-up and technical assistance departments to enhance process safety and environmental practices.
- Contributing to the development and revision of technical guidelines related to process safety and environmental standards.
- Leading training sessions for Process Engineers on process safety and environmental topics.
Qualifications:
- A degree in chemical engineering with strong knowledge of processes, process control, and safety.
- Experience in safety design within engineering is advantageous.
- Ability to interpret technical, hazard, and operational data, applying appropriate risk assessment methodologies.
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in process safety, preferably in the downstream oil and gas sector.
- Familiarity with installation and commissioning processes is a plus.
- A proactive approach to maintaining skills relevant to Axens' business growth.
- Proficiency in safety review methodologies such as HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA.
- Fluency in technical English (both written and spoken); knowledge of French is a plus.
- Strong communication skills, analytical mindset, and networking abilities.
- Ability to advocate for and defend decisions with stakeholders. This role may require occasional international travel.
