JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is currently seeking a highly skilled Instrument & Control Engineer to support detailed engineering efforts. This role is crucial for ensuring that project deliverables align with safety, cost efficiency, and competitive standards while adhering to project contracts and relevant codes.

The Instrument & Control Engineer plays a vital role in managing the performance of the EPC Contractor and overseeing vendor contributions. Key responsibilities include:
  • Technical Oversight: Provide expert guidance and verification for all Instrument and Control activities executed by the Contractor.
  • Design Integration: Ensure comprehensive solutions for control, safety, and fire & gas systems are effectively designed and integrated.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Contractor during design phases and bid evaluations to maintain project integrity.
  • Scope Review: Assess Engineering Contractor scopes of work and man-hour estimates for specialized activities.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct HAZOP/LOPA risk assessments and ensure compliance with industry standards for safety instrumented systems.
  • Specification Delivery: Guarantee that project functional specifications and scope requirements are met.
  • Resource Planning: Anticipate and request part-time and shared resources well in advance.
  • Technical Resolution: Address technical queries and manage risks effectively.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulations related to instrumentation, control, safety systems, and metering.
  • Documentation Support: Contribute to the engineering content of key project documents produced by the Contractor.
  • Decision Support: Support and occasionally lead engineering content for discipline-specific decisions.
  • Standards Application: Oversee the implementation of selected engineering codes and practices.
  • Deviation Review: Evaluate discipline-related deviations raised by the Contractor and provide recommendations.
  • Integration Activities: Facilitate integration with the Main Automation Contractor.
  • Interface Collaboration: Work alongside the lead electrical engineer to support electrical systems integration.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Verification: Collaborate with other core disciplines to ensure integrated designs.
  • Technical Support: Assist the Engineering Manager with day-to-day technical challenges.
QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related field.
  • Chartered Engineer or Professional Engineer status is required.
Essential Experience:
  • Significant experience in Instrumentation and Control.
  • Proven track record in contractor management and project delivery during the detailed engineering phase.
  • Experience in integrating vendor systems.
  • Strong expertise in multi-discipline integration.
  • Effective decision-making skills with a focus on engineering value.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects technically and lead teams.
  • Comprehensive experience with control and safety systems, including fire & gas systems.
  • Ability to engage effectively with project personnel, stakeholders, and contractors.
  • Recent experience influencing EPC contractors.
  • Strong communication skills across all project levels.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to safety and continuous improvement in HSSE performance.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
  • Collaborative mindset with a focus on constructive feedback.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience on the client side of major greenfield projects.
  • Background in major greenfield projects with large EPC Contractors.
  • Certification as a Functional Safety Engineer (TUV, Exida, etc.).
