Context and Opportunities
The Odyssey team at INRIA is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on stochastic modelling of oceanic flow, small-scale dynamics, and wave-current interaction. This 18-month position is part of the ERC Stuod project, which aims to improve our understanding, reconstruction, and forecasting of ocean dynamics.
The team's expertise encompasses mathematical and numerical modelling of ocean flows, observational and physical oceanography, data assimilation, and machine learning. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of novel representations of coupled ocean-atmosphere dynamics and explore the application of variational formalism to infer dynamics for the noise term.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on stochastic modelling of oceanic flow and small-scale dynamics
- Develop and implement numerical models for wave-current interaction
- Collaborate with the Odyssey group and other PIs in the ERC Stuod project
- Contribute to the development of ensemble data assimilation methods
Requirements
- PhD in applied mathematics, fluid dynamics, or a related field
- Strong background in stochastic parameterization and numerical modelling
- Excellent programming skills in Fortran, Python, and PyTorch
