Role Overview & Responsibilities

We are seeking a Senior Mobile Development Engineer to play a crucial role in our strategic app-first initiative for the upcoming year. Our objective is to boost user engagement by rapidly developing innovative features and refining the overall app experience.

As a Senior Mobile Development Engineer, you will lead our mobile engineering initiatives, focusing on aligning, designing, and executing the architectural vision for our mobile platforms and app functionalities.

Our mobile engineering teams are diverse, comprising professionals from various cultures and backgrounds across Europe (Spain, France, Germany). Each squad consists of pairs of iOS and Android engineers, working in their native languages to create the best user experience.

You will collaborate with other product teams and stakeholders, as well as the Mobile Core squad (Platform), which lays the groundwork and infrastructure for your development experience on apps. We encourage mobile engineers from product teams to contribute to both technical and core projects periodically, ensuring a focus on user experience and technical excellence.

Your proficiency in native platforms (either iOS or Android), along with your capacity to make strategic decisions and communicate effectively across all organizational levels, will be vital for our mobile engineering success. You will help ensure that tasks are delegated appropriately, decisions are made wisely, and information flows transparently throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality iOS and Android code (extensive experience in one of these platforms), establishing benchmarks for excellence and scalability to enhance our app's capabilities and product cycle speed.
  • Advance the development of innovative app-first features by prioritizing iOS and Android platform advancements, fostering expertise within the mobile engineering community at Back Market.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team of iOS and Android engineers, alongside peers from various disciplines (SRE, Backend, Frontend, CyberSec, Data, etc.), to cultivate a culture of technical excellence and shared knowledge.
  • Take ownership of significant technical projects, managing dependencies both internally and externally to realize engineering and product visions.
  • Enhance user experience by partnering with Product Managers and Designers, implementing intuitive UI animations, transitions, and accessibility features while adhering to our Design System.
  • Architect robust and efficient code patterns by utilizing the latest iOS and Android technologies, while committing to app architecture principles such as modularity and dependency injection.
  • Promote effective testing methodologies, from unit and UI tests to advanced end-to-end practices, ensuring the highest quality and reliability of developed features.
  • Meticulously monitor app performance using tools like Datadog and Crashlytics to track UI and core functionality, implementing strategies to prevent regressions.
  • Act as an internal advocate for the mobile engineering stack, promoting technical initiatives internally and representing Back Market at external tech events, conferences, and meetups, while contributing to the broader tech community through articles and continuous learning.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • 7+ years of extensive mobile engineering experience.
  • Strong technical leadership across multiple teams, with the ability to build and drive a mobile engineering vision and excellence.
  • Technical expertise in developing and scaling native apps on iOS or Android (B2C), with high traffic, frequent feature delivery, and resolving complex issues.
  • Experience in operating within a multi-module architecture.
  • In-depth knowledge and advocacy of Apple and Google UI guidelines, as well as proficiency in Swift and Kotlin languages and mobile platform frameworks.
  • Proven track record of mentoring and developing engineers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting complex technical information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.

Why Consider Joining Us?
