Job Summary
The Home Care Attendant (HCA) plays a vital role in the Home Care team at Southern Health-Santé Sud, providing essential personal care and home support services to clients in their own homes. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality care and support to individuals who require assistance with daily living activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personal care services, including bathing, dressing, and grooming, to clients in their homes.
- Assist clients with daily living activities, such as meal preparation, light housekeeping, and medication management.
- Support clients with mobility and transfer needs, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, their families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure seamless care coordination.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge in home care.
Requirements
- Proficiency in both official languages (English/French) is essential.
- Grade 12 education is required.
- Home Care Attendant Certificate or Health Care Aide Certificate with a community component from a recognized post-secondary institute is required.
- Knowledge of Safe Food Handling is essential.
- Previous experience working with the elderly or disabled in a community setting is preferred.
- Previous experience working in a home care program is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking skills.
- Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population.
- Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
- Good work and attendance record.
Conditions of Employment
- A valid Class 5 driver's license, an all-purpose insured vehicle, and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.00 are required.
