Paris, Île-de-France Motion Twin Temps plein
About Motion Twin

Motion Twin is a cooperative company based in Bordeaux, France, established in 2001. Our mission is to design and develop video games, with our latest title, Dead Cells, receiving critical acclaim, including the Game Awards 2018 for Best Action Game. Our upcoming game, Windblown, is scheduled for early access in 2024.

We are a team of 7 associates who oversee all aspects of game development, going beyond their technical roles. Each associate has a significant impact on project direction and the company's overall strategy. As a new team member, you can eventually request associate status, allowing you to participate in decision-making and share the risks and rewards.

About the Job

We are seeking a Technical Artist with strong programming skills and a keen artistic sense to join our team. As a key member of our development team, you will work closely with our artists, level designers, and programmers to design, architect, implement, and maintain the visual aspects of our game.

This role is not just about technical skills; we are looking for someone who can contribute to our company's growth and development. You will be expected to take an active role in our team's decision-making process and contribute to our company's strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Design, architect, and implement the necessary tools and pipelines for visual effects in Unity, in collaboration with our artistic team, level designers, and programmers.
  • Maintain, debug, and optimize these tools according to various constraints and platforms (PC, consoles, mobile), while preserving the artistic vision of the project.
  • Stay up-to-date and be proactive in implementing solutions, serving as a technical reference for visual and animation-related questions.
  • Plan and decompose tasks based on collectively defined objectives.
  • Take an interest in and position yourself on topics beyond the current project (company organization, strategy, etc.).
Requirements
  • Ability to identify artistic needs and choose appropriate technical solutions.
  • Strong skills in creating and integrating tools in Unity, with a good understanding of the tools used at the beginning and end of the production pipeline.
  • Ability to develop and maintain these tools to make them accessible to the artistic team.
  • Ability to propose new technical solutions.
  • Strong artistic foundations (composition, lighting, color theory) to understand and interpret the needs of the artistic team.
  • Excellent knowledge of Unity, C#, and the URP pipeline.
  • Proficiency in shaders, ShaderGraph, and associated languages (HLSL, ShaderLab, etc.).
  • Proficiency in 3D software (Houdini, 3DSMax, Maya, Blender, etc.).
  • Familiarity with 2D software (Substance Designer and Painter, Photoshop).
  • Attention to detail and finishing skills.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in a game development studio.
About You
  • Fluency in French.
  • Participation in the creation of at least one commercially released game.
  • Strong artistic sense and curiosity.
  • Autonomy and good communication skills.
  • Proactive and proposal-driven.
  • Curious and willing to go beyond your comfort zone.
  • You enjoy acquiring new skills (even beyond technical skills).
  • Constructive criticism of your own work and that of others.
  • Experience and willingness to work in a team.
Additional Information
  • Full-time contract (35 hours/week).
  • Possibility of requesting associate status (equal salary, voting rights, and profit-sharing).
  • Work location: on-site in Bordeaux or remote work possible (partial or full-time) from metropolitan France. If you are currently located elsewhere: possible relocation assistance and/or 6 months of remote work from your current location (modalities to be confirmed).
  • Meal vouchers (Swile card provided and mobile payment option).
  • Work equipment provided: office supplies, computers (PC/Mac, portable/fixe), and gaming equipment (games, controllers, etc.).
  • 100% health insurance coverage (including dependents).
  • Flexible work schedule.
  • Participation in profits and company benefits (after 3 months of work).
  • Salary maintenance in case of illness (including sick leave period).
  • Salary maintenance in case of family emergencies (up to 10 days per year).
