Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Construction Supervisor to lead and manage mechanical construction operations on a significant nuclear new build initiative. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with other construction discipline leaders, the Client, and their design partners to ensure the successful execution of the project. This position demands substantial experience in managing new build EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects, particularly utilizing a staged gate/RIBA methodology on a brownfield site within the nuclear sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership in Construction
    • Direct the mechanical construction activities, ensuring they align with project objectives, schedules, and quality benchmarks.
    • Work in close coordination with other construction discipline leaders to facilitate integrated and smooth construction processes.
  • Project Management
    • Oversee the planning, coordination, and implementation of all mechanical construction tasks, ensuring timely completion within budget and to the required quality standards.
    • Utilize a staged gate/RIBA approach to manage the project, ensuring each phase meets necessary criteria before moving forward.
  • Collaboration and Coordination
    • Engage closely with the Client and their design partners to ensure mechanical construction efforts are in line with overall project design and goals.
    • Build strong relationships with all project stakeholders, including contractors and regulatory agencies.
  • Regulatory Adherence
    • Ensure all mechanical construction operations comply with nuclear safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
    • Communicate with regulatory authorities as needed to ensure compliance and obtain necessary approvals.
  • Risk Management
    • Identify, evaluate, and manage risks associated with mechanical construction activities, developing strategies to mitigate potential issues.
    • Conduct regular risk assessments and adjust construction plans as necessary to minimize impacts.
  • Team Leadership
    • Guide and mentor a team of mechanical construction professionals, promoting a culture of safety, collaboration, and excellence.
    • Provide support and resources to team members, ensuring they have the necessary training to perform their roles effectively.
  • Quality Assurance
    • Establish and maintain stringent quality control processes to ensure all mechanical construction activities meet or exceed industry standards.
    • Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify compliance with quality and safety requirements.
  • Documentation and Reporting
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of mechanical construction activities, including progress reports, test results, and regulatory submissions.
    • Provide consistent updates to senior management and project stakeholders regarding construction progress and significant milestones.
  • Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)
    • Promote a robust safety culture, ensuring that all mechanical construction activities prioritize personnel health and safety and environmental protection.
    • Ensure adherence to all HSE policies and procedures, leading incident investigations when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. A master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., Chartered Engineer (CEng), Project Management Professional (PMP)) is preferred.
  • Experience: At least 10 years of experience in mechanical construction within the nuclear or energy sectors, with a strong background in new build EPC projects, particularly on brownfield sites.

Skills

  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
  • In-depth understanding of nuclear industry regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in construction management software and tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Additional Requirements:
