Head of Software Engineering

The Tech & Data department (~200 employees across the globe) provides products, services, and support to all SCOR Group worldwide. Its two key challenges today are to successfully implement its new Target Operating Model (TOM), to be supported by an ambitious pluri-annual internalization plan to deliver innovative products and services to its clients. **The Tech & Data organization is an Agile matrixial ways of working context relying on 4 vertical pillars**: - **Data and Software Engineering **, made up of teams supporting Software Engineering, Architecture, as well as Data activities (and notably the creation of a transversal data platform). - **Technical **, made up of teams dedicated to Operational Security, IT Operations, Networks, Workplace & Support, Cloud, Governance and Integration, and End User Experience. - **Management & Control (M&C) - Corporate Systems **, made up of teams supporting Functional & Technical activities: Governance, Transformation, Security & Compliance, Sourcing & Vendor Management, Financial Control, Processes. - **Crews **_(i.e. Tribes) _, or more precisely 9 standalone Crews, covering SCOR’s whole business value chain. **Overall, the 9 Crews **(L&H Business Underwriting, P&C Business Underwriting,, Pricing & Modelling, L&H/P&C Operations, Financial Production, Investments, Corporate) **are supported by 6 Chapters **, both in terms of setting and maintaining standards of practices and of support in relevant competencies (Software Engineering, Architecture, Data Engineering, BI Engineering, IT Operations, and Security) **and both Technical and M&C teams are fully dedicated to the delivery of SCOR products, services and support.** **The Head of Software Engineering **will be responsible for the overseeing of all software engineering activities throughout the 9 crews and 100 squads for all projects, leading developments on his/her dedicated functional scope. S.he is responsible for their consistency and can identify risks and take related structuring decisions when necessary. S.he will lead the Software Engineering team as part of a matrixial ways of working context, in support of several projects/products. Your missions and tasks will be: **_On software development and collaboration with Crews and other Chapters _** - Set the strategic direction for how to build software within the teams, which includes tools, coding standards, quality controls - Coordinate activities performed in Managed Services operations teams during day-to-day operations and planned activities - Conduct code reviews to ensure that new code is error-free and conforms to established standards - Guarantee the "architectural" consistency of all systems within the Squad(s), in association with SCOR architects - Ensure, and ultimately validate, the technical feasibility of requests and explain technical choices - Guarantee the technical quality of the service and continuously improve, innovate and anticipate obsolescence and evolutions of the technical solutions (including delivery processes in collaboration with the IT Ops team) - Contribute to parameterizations/developments and documentation **_On innovation _** - Evaluate emerging technologies to determine if they can be integrated into the company’s products or services and then recommend innovations that enhance and/or provide a competitive advantage to the organization - Help build exposure within the tech community through meetups, conferences, and open-source contribution - Continuously champion Agile Methodologies to release and deploy iterations **_On leadership and management _** - Monitor and evaluate Software Engineers’ progress, assist with training and recruitment, set goals, and ensure efficient gap bridging with Business requests - Dedicate time to animating training and knowledge sharing with all tech-oriented members of the Squad. **Required experience & competencies** - +8 years of (full stack) coding experience and a proven track record of successful technical-oriented team management as part of an international organization - Experience/Knowledge of the reinsurance business and/or the financial services industry is a plus Hard skills - Strong experience of Business & IT agile ways of working - Strong expertise in various coding languages - Understanding of the importance of maintainable code and documentation when working in a large organization - High curiosity about technology / coding innovation - Agile & Project management methodology and practice - Fluency in English Soft skills - Strong analytical thinking, solution-oriented and force of proposals - Ability and strong experience in managing multi-disciplinary technical resources with the right level of delegation and autonomy - Capacity to navigate in a matrixial ways of working and international environment - Capacity to bridge the gap between Business demands and Software Engineers’ works - Willing to take initiatives - Team spirit and wish to collaborate with vario
