**Context**:

- Sustainable and intelligent manufacturing is essential for today's environmental and societal challenges. Laser micromachining is a high-potential solution that meets concrete industrial needs, by avoiding the use of synthetic chemical products, while exceeding the capabilities of conventional processes: better resolution and versatility, treatment of various materials without tool wear.- Femtosecond lasers have been a major innovation in recent decades: the peak powers generated enable selective material removal with micrometric resolution, with little or no adverse effects on material health. However, these technologies are still limited to extremely slow speeds.- The challenge over the next few years is to make these technologies industrially viable. The high power recently available from femtosecond laser sources seems to be the key, as it makes it possible to envisage parallelized processes at very high rates. To achieve this, however, we need to go beyond our current understanding of the physics of femtosecond laser material removal.**PhD Subject**:

- A laser station equipped with the latest technology is available and will be instrumented to collect in-situ data during high-power femtosecond laser tests on different materials.- The research work should provide a better understanding of femtosecond machining capabilities at very high rates. There are two key aspects to this:
- ablation and plasma coverage phenomena during pulse bursts,
- characterization of machining and thermal heating, when using beam shaping solutions and process parallelization.- This work is part of LaserSurf, the joint laboratory between IREPA LASER and the ICube academic laboratory. Synergies with ongoing activities in technology, process, simulation, acquisition and robotics are expected.**Nature du financement**:
