About the Role
: This is not a role for someone who wants to learn risk on the job. We need an experienced operator who can walk in, read our Stripe Radar and SolidGate dashboards on day one, identify what's broken, and start fixing it. You will own chargeback and fraud strategy across the portfolio and serve as the single point of accountability for our VAMP and Mastercard fraud rates.
- Brought a merchant out of a Visa or Mastercard monitoring program
- Written remediation plans that processors actually accepted
- An immediate, instinctive understanding of what "Ethoca alert response window" means What You’ll Do:
- Own portfolio-level risk posture across all nine platforms (QR generation suite, Files Editor, Tracelo, Location-Tool, Chatbox AI, Infochecker) and any new platforms launched during your tenure.
- Maintain VAMP and Mastercard fraud rates below processor thresholds, with active remediation plans for any platform trending toward Visa's "above standard" (0.65%) or "excessive" (1.5%) tiers.
- Lead daily standups with the risk analyst team, set priorities, and ensure no dispute deadline is missed across the portfolio.
- Build and maintain risk dashboards using SQL against our payment data, giving leadership real-time visibility into fraud rate, dispute volume, refund-to-chargeback conversion, and processor-specific KPIs.
- Oversee end-to-end dispute response across Stripe, SolidGate, Adyen, and Checkout, including representment quality, win rate tracking, and evidence library maintenance.
- Optimize our Ethoca and Verifi configurations (RDR, CDRN, alerts) to maximize pre-dispute resolution and minimize disputes that escalate to chargebacks.
- Investigate dispute clusters and root causes (specific funnels, BINs, geographies, acquirer issues) and feed findings back into product, fraud rules, and marketing.
- Design and continuously tune fraud rules in Stripe Radar and SolidGate, balancing fraud reduction against false-positive rate and conversion impact.
- Lead 3DS strategy across the portfolio — when to challenge, when to frictionless, and how to use dynamic 3DS based on transaction risk scoring.
- Monitor and respond to fraud patterns (BIN attacks, card-testing, refund abuse, friendly fraud, subscription fraud) within hours, not days.
- Serve as primary point of contact with risk teams at Stripe, SolidGate, Adyen, and Checkout. You will be on these calls.
- Draft remediation plans for any platform entering a monitoring program, and execute against them with measurable weekly progress.
- Manage the Chargeback Analyst and Fraud Prevention as those roles come online — set KPIs, run 1:1s, handle performance feedback.
- Build playbooks and SOPs so that risk response is systematized rather than dependent on any single person being online. What We’re Looking For:
- 3+ years in risk, fraud, or chargeback management at a high-risk merchant, payment processor, or PSP. Consumer subscription experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing Mastercard MATCH/VMSS/VFMP and Visa VAMP exposure. Specific examples of platforms you brought into compliance will be requested in interviews.
- Working knowledge of dispute lifecycle across multiple card brands — pre-dispute (Ethoca, RDR, Verifi), first chargeback, representment, pre-arbitration, arbitration.
- Strong SQL — you will write your own queries against payment data daily. Comfort with joins, window functions, and time-series aggregations is expected.
- Experience operating across multiple payment processors and acquirers simultaneously. Single-processor experience alone is not sufficient for this role.
- Excellent written communication — you will draft processor-facing remediation documents that need to land the first time.
- Comfort with ownership, transparency, and a results-driven mindset — in line with our core values. Strongly Preferred:
- Direct experience with orchestration (routing logic, cascading, retry strategies).
- Familiarity with consumer DPF (Direct Payment Funnel) business models and the specific fraud and chargeback patterns they generate (free trial abuse, descriptor confusion, subscription cancellation disputes).
- Prior exposure to KYB and merchant onboarding from the merchant side. **How Succe
