Senior Database Architect

We are seeking an experienced **Senior Database Architect** specializing in PostgreSQL to support a large-scale IT system for a European Commission project.

A Day in the Life of a **Senior Database Architect** will include:

- Design, install, configure, and tune PostgreSQL databases for optimal performance and scalability;
- Manage multiregional database configurations and clustering to ensure high availability across multiple data centers;
- Create and maintain database models, schemas, and data dictionaries;
- Implement and manage backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and business continuity;
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to make strategic and architectural decisions regarding the software;
- Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements;
- Provide expert-level troubleshooting and support for database-related issues;
- Implement and maintain database security measures, including access controls and encryption;
- Develop and document database standards, procedures, and guidelines;
- Conduct capacity planning and performance tuning to accommodate growing data volumes and user loads;
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior database administrators and developers, and;
- Ensuring that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements and supporting the continued implementation of the Group Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy.

**Requirements**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience as a Database Administrator or Architect, with at least 5 years focused on PostgreSQL.
- Expert-level knowledge of PostgreSQL, including advanced features, performance tuning, optimization techniques and high-availability and disaster recovery solutions for PostgreSQL.
- Strong experience in designing and managing multiregional database configurations and clustering.
- Proficiency in database modeling (preferably with UML and modeling tools (e.g SPARX Enterprise Architect), normalization, and denormalization techniques.
- Solid understanding of database security best practices and implementation.
- Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions and migration strategies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of EU data protection regulations and security standards.
- Fluency in English, French language knowledge is an advantage.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Experience with other database management systems (e.g., Oracle, MySQL).
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.
- Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and big data technologies.
- Certifications in PostgreSQL or other relevant database technologies.
- Experience working in large-scale, mission-critical environments.
- Understanding of biometric data management and processing.
