Embedded Software for Space Systems

To develop new plug-and-play interfaces for space hardware, SpaceLocker is looking to expand its embedded software team. Developments range from the secure management of hardware, the interfacing of field buses in processing resources, to the development and testing of custom circuits in compact form factors.

Overall, **you will be part of software development on embedded systems, to allow plug-and-play integration of space missions**.

**In this position, you will work with the embedded software team to**:

- Define and implement software dealing with “pipework” and on board data handling, including packets handling, telecommunication protocols, access to physical devices, etc., based on SpaceLocker’s environments and space industry standards such as ECSS PUS,
- Work with low-level features of the Linux operating system to extract the best performance of embedded systems for our customers,
- Write the associated unit, integration and functional tests.

- Most of the technical stack is written in Rust, with effort put on modern software development environment and techniques,
- SpaceLocker is a company with flexible processes and the willingness to put money where the mouth is,
- Lead the shift over to exciting technologies, especially from the ground cloud computing and automotive sector, that are the next generation of standards in the space industry.

For this opportunity, compensation package is 45-60k€ before tax, with an additional 10% performance bonus. 5 week paid vacation, with the possibility to work remote for part of the week, and/or part-time.

Your Profile

**Hard skills**:

- You have higher education in STEM and a formal training in software development or embedded systems,
- You have three to five years of professional experiences with embedded systems in the space sector or similar domains, including some time at a large scale integrator (Thales, Airbus, etc.),
- You have a good knowledge of programming, including OOP languages like Python, Java, or C++ and system programming languages like C. Bonus: you have a good knowledge of Rust, or willingness to learn.
- You have experience of on board data handling with embedded systems, preferably in an OBDH/DHS position in the space industry, but also for drones, trains, etc.
- You’re fluent with the basic use of Linux systems and may have some experience with embedded-Linux specific tools like Yocto or Buildroot.

**Soft skills**:

- You take responsibility, show autonomy and are not afraid of improvisation. The startup world is a bit messy sometimes, and we’ll need your help on unexpected topics,
- You have a hands-on approach to technical solutions : once there is prototype on the table everything becomes simpler,
- You are efficient with writing documentation, (be it straight documentation, tests reports, tests plan, requirements facing tests etc...),
- You’re comfortable working all day in English, SpaceLocker is an European company.
