Department

EDF Trading’s origination activities are directed towards both the EDF Group internal portfolio as well as third parties, and cover the whole range of the commodities spectrum with a primary goal to complement the standard product related trading activities with non-standard contractual or asset based positions.

EDF Trading’s originations activities are therefore instrumental to creating additional and structural market positions used as a basis for developing trading activities; for example, the financial PPA structures marketed by EDFT provide renewable asset owners with a financial solution allowing them to secure the prices of their intermittent production whilst providing EDFT with complex market exposures for which EDFT has developed specific trading and risk management approaches.

Moreover, EDF Trading’s origination activities are also key to support the effective management of existing trading positions with the execution of adhoc non-standard arrangements specified with EDFT’s portfolio managers and targeted towards identified market parties in the wholesale OTC market.

Position purpose
- structured transactions including financial PPAs, flexibility optimisation agreements, virtual asset transactions, targeted towards French based EDF Group entities and third party clients;
- flow business transactions across the energy commodity spectrum backed by an existing portfolio of external clients to be further developed and targeted with products best addressing their evolving needs in the wholesale energy markets.

Main responsibilities

These may include but are not limited to:

- Understanding and having in-depth knowledge of EDF’s both contractual and asset-related positions on the French market;
- Identifying within EDF’s portfolio potential areas of optimization presenting attractive risk / reward and coordinating with EDFT’s portfolio managers to structure and finalise relevant transactions;
- Developing and enhancing contacts within EDF’s organisation to promote and effectively implement optimization transactions;
- Structuring transactions, in coordination with EDFT’s Portfolio managers, primarily intended to support the management of EDFT’s portfolio and subsequently contribute opportunistically to the value capture process;
- Having in-depth knowledge of the main wholesale market participants active in the French market and their rationale for such activities;
- Developing relationships at appropriate levels within counterparts management hierarchy;
- Marketing towards market players active in the French market structured transactions instrumental to EDFT’s portfolio;
- Maintaining knowledge of both the regulatory guidelines with respect to the French market and the ongoing portfolio re-structuring activities performed by EDF in order to possibly advise EDF on the most relevant structures to be negotiated from a market optimisation perspective;
- Analysing transactions risk/rewards, in coordination with EDFT’s pricing desk;
