To consolidate and provide overall strategic leaderships to medical education, information, communication, MSL function and performance metrics. This role will have responsibility to support these groups as they continue to scale and build and create platforms that are truly best in class, and can continue to evolve and adapt. These platforms and teams will be deployed globally across all of Ipsen’s therapeutic areas and ensure that the medical organization at Ipsen can deliver on its promise to bring transformational therapeutics to patients worldwide.

This role will report to Ipsen’s Chief Medical officer and will be the primary point person for the strategic development and execution of the holistic medical excellence plan. The role is critical to continued growth and development of the function worldwide and the incumbent will be expected to provide leadership to both central and local medical functions beyond their direct responsibility.

**Main responsibilities / job expectations**

Leads more than one function, across more than one geographic region, aligning with the overall MA goals. Does this by managing the strategic and tactical business operations of four or more teams through subordinate managers. Potential teams include: Medical Information, Global Medical Communications and Publications, Global Medical Affairs Tools and Services and Governance and MSL function.
- Provides leadership in the Global Medical Affairs Excellence role in developing and/or facilitating business processes utilizing staff and technology to create the highest level of efficiency, productivity, and success possible within the Medical Affairs (MA) organization.
- Provides leadership to MELT staff who must have an understanding of the various processes within IPSEN and are involved in coordinating and developing new processes while routinely re-evaluating current processes.
- Establishes collaborative working relationships across Medical Worldwide and with departments outside of Medical Excellence including, but not limited to: Regulatory Affairs; Finance; HR; Legal/Business Conduct; Strategic Sourcing; IT; Commercial; and Clinical Operations to optimize the financial, technical, compliance, and strategic management of key functional areas.
- Responsible for the long-term growth and evolution of the department.
- Ensures provision of operational support across GMA activities, namely Publications, Medical Communications, Medical Information, Training tools, Medical CRM module and Governance body tools.
- Identifies and keeps others focused on key metrics that drive the business
- Ensure that all medical tools and activities are designed and conducted in accordance with prevailing IPSEN SOP, local, regional & international standards of Good Clinical Practice
- Ensure that all medical materials are designed and used in accordance with prevailing IPSEN SOP, local, regional & international standards of Good Promotional Practice

**Knowledge, abilities & experience**

Education / Certifications: Typically requires an advanced degree such as MD, PharmD; MBA a plus

**Experience**:

- 10-15+ years of pharmaceutical industry working experience in Medical Affairs with an intimate working knowledge of the managerial role in Medical Affairs and all Medical Affairs Operations
- Relevant experience of managing global projects
- Languages: English. Others an advantage.
- International exposure or multi-cultural working environment
- Evidence of autonomy and self-motivation
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Results orientation
- Enjoys/success in team work

**Key Technical Competencies Required**
- Is an engaging presenter/trainer, impactful and memorable, having gravitas with medics and non-medics alike and strong communication, networking and stakeholder skills
