Head of Data Platform

We are seeking a Head of Data Platform to support the growth of the company and building our data analytics SaaS platform for the retail industry, particularly in the context of the increasing diversity of volumes, sources, and types of data utilized by the organization.

We work on solutions that:

- Handle large volumes of diverse data from IoT/event streams, computer vision, transactional, operational, and supply chain sources
- Enrich AI and Computer Vision capabilities with a business intelligence layer, transforming data into actionable insights for retailers

**Your Role**

As a member of Memory's Data Team, your role will involve leading and managing the data platform team which consists of data engineers and data ops engineers. Your primary responsibilities will include:

- Management and organization of the data engineers and data ops engineers
- Define the team’s vision and assess individual objectives, providing regular feedback
- Own the operational/run of the computations performed on our data platform, as well as insuring continuous data integration and data sharing with consuming systems
- Act as the main contact point for stakeholders when referring to running the data platform as well as internal or external data, arbitrating between the requirements specifications and business priorities
- Lead conversations regarding design, data architecture, building and managing our data pipelines, ensuring data is seamlessly integrated into our data Lakehouse
- Own the implementation of the analytics compute engines as well as putting in production analytics modules and ML models
- Define best practices across the team and ensure the security, integrity, and compliance/quality of data according to industry and company standards
- Foster a collaborative mindset to strengthen autonomy and accountability within multidisciplinary teams, including, Data Science, Machine Learning, Infrastructure, Software, Product, Consulting to understand their data needs and provide solutions
- Lead the recruitment process in collaboration with HR

**Qualifications**:
**Profile Sought**
- We are looking for someone with a track record in Data Engineering/Data Ops roles with a history of delivering analytics solutions dealing with large data volumes
- Someone that has a deep understanding of the technical complexity of a data platform and what running data operations means
- Someone that is customer oriented, that can engage with stakeholders and solve their problems alignment, project delivery and change management
- Experience managing data engineering or data ops teams
- Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used within Data Engineering, such as Python, Scala, or Java.
- Experience with distributed processing technologies and frameworks, such as Spark/Databricks and distributed storage systems (e.g., HDFS...).
- Solid understanding of Spark and ability to write, debug and optimize Spark code.
- Expertise with any orchestrator such as Airflow, Dagster, Prefect or similar frameworks.
- Knowledge of Data Lakehouse architectures or OLAP/Cube systems for advanced analytics.
- Familiarity with Docker & Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of Kafka, Event Hubs, Pub/Sub is a plus.
- Knowledge of dbt, cube.dev is a plus.
- A deep understanding of best practices in data architecture, data management, security, and compliance
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Bonus point: previous experience in the retail field
