Sr Manager, Public Affairs Europe

Position Summary

A proactive business and technology-oriented professional with significant experience with business development and interfacing with government, industry, customers and community leaders in Europe. Must have a strong knowledge base of communications, legislative and political mechanisms to serve as Sr Manager of Public Affairs to support Plug Power’s growing needs in Europe. This position requires working directly with Plug Power’s EVP and General Counsel, Vice President of Public Affairs in the United States and the Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, Europe on all aspects of advising Plug Power’s leadership team on legislative, political, regulatory and government affairs matters arising from Plug Power’s business and the global expansion of its products and services. This individual will work closely with the legal, marketing and communications, and technology departments. Individual would need to lead coordination of outside communications and government affairs firms, international liaisons and consultants, and political representatives. This individual must be self-motivated, able to handle multiple competing priorities at once and ascertain from strategic objectives what needs to be accomplished, and willing to adapt within a dynamic, fast-paced organization.

Core

**Responsibilities**:
Convey the European story of Plug
- Contribute to having Plug Power identified as a key European player of the hydrogen ecosystem by all stakeholders, including public decision makers; participate in the structuring of relevant partnerships to achieve those goals
- Make European public bodies aware of Plug’s presence, job creation and investments realized throughout Europe
- Coordinate and collaborate with Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, Europe and Communications and Marketing team and consultants in Europe;

Support the strategy of the Company for the European region;
- Inform and orient the decisions of the Company by supplying expertise in matters of regulations, funding and national and European strategy for the development of hydrogen as well as knowledge of Plug Power’s competitive environment;
- Contribute to the each Business Unit’s strategy in Europe by providing feedback on the regulatory framework in each European country
- Help business and go-to-market strategy prioritizing markets where Plug is on the same playing field of its competitors from a regulatory standpoint

Business development support
- Source business opportunities in coordination with states / regions as appropriate and coordinate with Business Development and sales teams in Europe
- Act as public affairs interface with Plug Power’s partners across Europe (Hyvia, AccionaPlug and others)
- Convey the value-add of Plug’s solutions in the context of the energy transition in Europe in order to help governments accelerate their deployment (permitting time, subsidies, etc.)
- Create plans and facilitate outreach and leadership through the gathering of intelligence and drafting of point papers, policy briefings, presentations, and other materials related to communications, marketing and government relations.
- Build a team to support Plug’s clients obtain incentives and subsidies for using Plug’s products

Advocate on policy and regulatory frameworks
- Facilitate and act as interface in the relations of the Company with government authorities, regulatory bodies and with other decision makers, stakeholders and partners in the field of hydrogen, fuel cells and clean energy;
- Research, monitor, track and analyze current and proposed local, federal, EU and international legislation, regulations, policies and incentives as it relates to Company priorities in Europe;
- Advocate before government officials, policy makers and their staff;
- Coordinate and support events in Europe that drive government affairs and business development activities;
- Coordinate with industry organizations and participate in advocacy groups to best represent the Company’s needs with policymakers and best position the Company for continued growth. This includes managing budgets for organization memberships, attending meetings and coordinating with colleagues in the Company to facilitate a successful outcome;
- Supervise and direct government affairs consultants on multiple legislative, policy and tax matters;
- Assist and support the VP of Public Affairs and EVP, General Counsel on all aspects of operating Plug Power’s international government affairs;
- Ensure work product of the highest quality that furthers Plug Power’s strategic and business goals;
- Open to travel, including international, as and when required;
- Always represent Plug Power in a professional manner and in all interactions; and
- Perform all other appropriate duties as assigned including administrative functions.
