Institut Pascal is an interdisciplinary research laboratory working in the strategic fields of the Engineering and Systems Sciences: process engineering, mechanics, robotics, physics for information sciences, health technologies. It is supervised by the University of Clermont Auvergne and the CNRS (INSIS as main institute, INS2I and INP as secondary institutes). CHU University Hospital of Clermont-Ferrand is secondary supervisor of the unit. Institut Pascal is member of Clermont Auvergne INP, which includes three engineering schools ISIMA, POLYTECH Clermont and SIGMA Clermont.

**Description**:
**Background**

Fabric-Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) composites have received significant attention in civil engineering over the past few decades. They offer excellent mechanical properties and numerous advantages, including reduced self-weight, lower construction costs and good fire resistance. FRCM composites have been effectively employed in the reinforcement of reinforced concrete and masonry structures. Ongoing research is exploring their potential for reinforcing vegetal concrete. However, despite these advantages, various scientific and technological challenges continue to hinder the widespread use of FRCM, particularly when integrating natural reinforcement materials.

**Project**

The main objective of this project is to develop a numerical simulation to replicate both global and local mechanical behavior of FRCM composites. The goal is to predict key micromechanical parameters that govern crack behavior in FRCM such as shear at the reinforcement/matrix interface, crack spacing, and load transfer length. This simulation will allow for the optimized design of FRCM composites for reinforcing structures. The study will be conducted at three main scales: the reinforcement/matrix interface, the composite scale, and the structural scale.

**Planned work**
- Conduct a bibliographic study,
- Calibrate of a reinforcement/matrix interface model,
- Develop of a numerical simulation to model the tensile behavior of FRCM
- Validate the model using experimental data,
- Perform a parametric study to find the optimal FRCM for structural reinforcement.

**Profil**:
Student of master 2 or engineering school, in structural or material mechanics, with a strong focus on numerical methods, especially finite element analysis. Solid skills in using Abaqus software are essential.
