The Engineering Manager manages a team of engineers and drives their work to deliver the product releases that are committed to the product management team on time and with the right quality. He has enough technical expertise to provide technical leadership to the team and drive their work. He sets up the processes, tools and means that engineers need to optimize their work and deliver the best code possible. He sets up and manages his team to meet their goals, contributes to products strategy and helps developing team members.
QShield (the product that your team is in charge of delivering) is a mix of several modules, based on various technologies:
- a Clang/LLVM-based compiler
- a set of C++ libraries, sometimes using custom compiler transformations
- contains cryptography protocols in many different places
- SaaS and monitoring technologies
- built and tested for many architectures & OS
- all supported by a full Gitlab based CI
In this context, you will be responsible for supporting and evolving these technological activities. The choices you make will directly impact the productivity of an highly-skilled engineering team, and have an influence on the overall Go-to-Market of the various products/features we would launch. You will also help find new talents, both for supporting the current team as well as delivering products that would require new skills.
You will also help the personal growth of your teams members, both for their soft & hard skills, making sure that they have all they need to accomplish their work properly.
**Key Responsibilities**
Technical management of the QShield project:
- Making sure that software deliverables are released on time, are feature complete and with the right quality (in accordance with planning defined and agreed with the PM)
- Deliverables:
- Verify that deliverables are feature complete (versus the roadmap), fully tested and documented
- Guarantee delivery to customers (Tech Lead acting)
- Quality:
- Ensure consistent quality accross all product components (code/tests/documentation)
- Define and own the product development, CI and test process
- Consistency/factorization: insuring the reusage of as much technologies as possible between products. Responsible for engineering consistency (e.g. coding styles) and review guidelines.
- Productivity: making sure all required tools and technical resources are available to the team
- Ensure that each module/technology is staffed properly (together with the technical lead)
- Define how to build new and existing modules
People Management of the engineering team:
- Facilitate collaborators’ work as much as possible
- Follow-up collaborators’ well being & career
- Determine the need for training and talent development and plan their actioning
- Handle the hiring processes
- Annual interviews
- Make sure that monthly/yearly review meetings are happening
**Skills**
Hard skills:
- Knowledgable in software protections, code obfuscation, cryptography & communication propocols design
- Experience in the IoT engineering ecosystem
- Programming languages: knowledgable in C, C++ & Python
Soft skills:
- Team organisation, leadership, effective communicator, mentoring
- Understanding of requirements, cost, roadmap and systems architecture
- Track record of succeful product delivery and growth
Nice to have:
- Knowledeable in git & CMake
- Knowledgable in various operating systems
- Experience with infrastructure management tooling (e.g. Ansible)
- Management of Gitlab CI pipelines
