**Role Outline / Responsibilities**:
Role of the Nuclear Safety Engineer
The Nuclear Safety Engineer will work for Energia (Support to the Owner) team as part of the Nuclear Safety Unit of our Client Fusion For Energy in ITER Cadarache. His/her main role will be to provide expertise to F4E for the pre-conceptual design of a nuclear facility in ITER Cadarache. This is a senior position where major nuclear safety expertise is required.
Responsibilities of the Nuclear Safety Engineer
The Nuclear Safety Engineer may perform the following tasks:
- He/She is in charge of assessing technical solutions proposed by RESO-Engage or contractors in the field of the nuclear engineering for the following phases: design, manufacturing, installation, tests and commissioning, operation & maintenance.
- He/She assess technical and non-technical compliancy aspects to nuclear safety requirements. He/She performs analysis, identifies and resolves difficult and complex compliancy demonstration and substantiation pertaining to nuclear safety.
- He/She prepares technical documents in line with quality assurance and quality control procedures and compile evidence / results for submission to external and internal experts.
- He/She is responsible for the assessment of nuclear safety reports, including identification of compliancy deficiencies, optimization possibilities and adaptations to safety constraints (for example ALARA = As Low As Reasonable).
- He/She assists F4E in the implementation of nuclear safety requirements and the identification of potential interface issues.
- He/She provides support to assess technical specifications, nuclear safety and quality documentation (QCR, for instance).
- He/She uses his/her expertise to give advice aimed at minimizing potential adverse impact on nuclear safety of deviations, helping to ensure that the project is developed within the approved budget and deadlines.
- He/She is directly responsible for organizing his/her job with a methodical approach considering the priorities and objectives defined by management, ensuring for the safety aspect that a coherent and reliable consolidated design regarding the requirements, project constraints and applicable standards.
- He/She defines the quality control system required to assure the conformity to the nuclear safety requirements (including all kind of regulation applicable in France for the nuclear industry) and participates - as required by Quality Plan - to the key quality control acts during the development of the manufacture and the construction and their conformity to design and specifications.
- As part of his/her responsibilities, the Nuclear Safety Engineer also needs to:
o Understand the science behind how nuclear facilities work (particular mention to fusion power plants)
o Cooperate with local authorities, and work with national, European Union (EU) and international industry regulatory bodies.
o Be aware of and address security concerns regarding the use, transport, storage and disposal of radioactive materials.
