A) Enhanced fluorimetry in the two photon regime*.

When pairs of photons of frequencies f1/f2 resulting from a biexcitonic or cascade process are emitted by an individual fluorophore in a short lapse of time T, superposed to a continuous background noise, the signal/noise ratio associated to their joint detection is equal to C12.T/((S1.T).(S2.T)) with C the non-accidental coincidence rate, and S1/2 the rate of single detections at frequencies f1/f2. It increases proportionally to the inverse of T which can become very large for small values of T. This technique is promising regarding metrological performances of conventional fluorimetry, in the low intensity regime.

B) New anti-counterfeiting strategies based on quantum signature**.

Our second goal, roughly expressed, is to conceive quantum filigrans (filigrees) based on the specific optical response of well-chosen fluorophores, in the single photon regime (among others in the quantum strong-coupling regime). Like its classical counterpart, a quantum filigran is characterised by an optical response that is difficult to reproduce and/or to mimic.

Among others, we shall, in the framework of the project, characterize optical components (fluorophores, non-linear crystals) at the Institut Fresnel, in the few photon regimes, in the lab. of Jerome Wenger. An experimental Ph.D is devoted to the measures of photon statistics, correlations and so on. We expect from the post-doc to be hired in the framework of the project to strongly contribute to the data treatment resulting from the experiments. Therefore the profile that we are looking for is postdoc with theoretical background and significant expertise in programming.

We identified collective quantum effects as a crucial concept in the majority of the pathfinder projects; we expect thus from the post-doc to be hired in Marseille to be experienced in quantum collective effects in order to study and to compare the role played by collective effects in various projects of the portfolio.

Profile

We are looking for a skillful and highly motivated postdoc who, ideally, has expertise in quantum physics, quantum optics, programming and collective quantum effects.
