Risers are used in deepwater offshore energy production to transport a range of fluids between the seabed and a floating facility on the water surface. Current riser technology allows for development of projects in over 3000m water depth. Hybrid risers are one such technology and combine two different types of riser technology as an enabler in the most challenging situations.

Main Responsibilities
The goal of this internship is to combine these technologies and consider the benefits of a novel system combining both rigid (steel) and composite riser technology into a hybrid system. Integrated in our team, this internship will participate to the different stages of the design of a novel hybrid riser system including a large part of concept development, basis of design, parametric and in-place analysis.
- State of the art of existing and upcoming projects and concepts.
- Establish an outline of the hybrid riser concept.
- Establish a parametric study to size and configure the hybrid riser for a range of cases
(diameter, water depth, location).
- Undertake in-place analyses for the hybrid riser system to establish viability envelope.
- Present / Report the methodology used and outcomes.
- Develop the tools (codes, excel, slides, technical note,) for engineers.

Qualifications & Requirements
- She/he will study acceptable structural and fatigue performance of the designs, whilst considering the functional, fabrication, installation, and in-service requirements.
- The role will also involve extensive communication of technical results and conclusions
to other members of the team - including meetings, presentations, and the preparation of written reports, and other deliverables.
- 2H uses several software packages, from specialist riser analysis tools such as OrcaFlex and SACS to general-purpose finite element analysis and design tools such as ANSYS and Solidworks.
Training will be provided throughout the process as required.

Trainee’s Profile:

- Master’s degree in mechanical, structural, ocean engineering, or a related discipline.
- Aptitude and enthusiasm for carrying out analytical work efficiently.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and presentation skills.
- Fluent in French and English.
- Desire to take responsibility and ownership of tasks.
- A desire to develop a career and expertise in the renewable industry.
- Software experience with Microsoft Office, finite element analysis packages.
- (e.g., ANSYS, Deeplines, Orcaflex, Flexcom), and some knowledge of computer
programming is preferable (Python).
