Quantum Error Correction Scientist

Founded in 2020, C12 is a fast-growing start-up, having raised a seed round of USD 10 million in June 2021 and building its own lab space in the centre of Paris (Panthéon).
**Your role at C12 Quantum Electronics**: While a lot of research is conducted related to quantum algorithms and quantum error correction, it is most often done independently from the hardware implementation in a hardware agnostic manner. This makes it difficult to take advantage of the characteristic properties of a given hardware, such as the connectivity (islands of densely connected qubits) of the processor and the noise structure (dominated by dephasing). We believe at C12 that quantum computing should benefit a lot, at first, from error correction code and more generally algorithms to be developed from hardware design and capabilities. Hence your role at C12 would be to explore what could be the best error correction strategy for C12, exploring and adapting existing code or eventually develop new strategies optimised for our technology. C12 also provides a quantum emulator, Callisto, developed in collaboration with the theory team at C12, that you will be able to rely on for testing the ideas you develop.
Your tasks will include:
- Testing and adapting existing error correction codes to C12 technology
- Developing error correction codes suited for C12 technology
- Defining the prerequisite for error correction on C12 technology and helping to design processor architectures in that regard
- Predicting error correction capabilities on C12's technology
- Helping to develop scalable architectures and strategies to execute practical quantum algorithms
- Assisting the software team on implementing error correction on a quantum emulator
- Presenting research findings in technical talks and journal publications
- Liaising with experts from academia and industry for advice and collaborations
**About you**:
- You have a PhD in a field related to quantum error correction (theoretical physics, computer science, mathematics )
- You have a deep knowledge of quantum error correction and quantum information
- You speak and write English fluently
- You are self-motivated and are able to work independently
- You are curious and passionate about technology with a particular interest in quantum
- You thrive in a start-up environment, characterised by growth and creativity
You should join us if...
You want to have a key role in a growing startup with challenges at the frontier of the technology.
You want to contribute to achieving landmark results in quantum computing, making a difference in the emerging quantum technologies.
You want to work within a 40-people team with various backgrounds in nanofabrication, quantum electronics, and carbon nanotube science to create a revolutionary quantum computing processor.
You want to thrive in an exceptional scientific environment with several industrial and academic partners.
You share our values (excellence, scientific integrity, diversity, curiosity, and care) and want to help us define our product-focused culture and ambition to accelerate.
C12’s unique technology
At C12, a qubit, the fundamental functional unit of a quantum computer, is built from an isotopically ultra-pure 12C nanotube suspended above a silicon chip containing control electrodes and a quantum communication bus. Our spin qubits hold great promise in terms of individual control and manipulation as well as for the circuit architecture. A suspended isotopically-pure 12C nanotube holds great promise in terms of stability, as it reduces all sources of decoherence (charge noise, nuclear spin noise and phonon relaxation). C12 encourages all who feel qualified to apply. C12 encourages all who feel qualified to apply.
