Senior Staff - Research Scientist and Team Lead (W/M)

Who we are

Kyutai is a non-profit lab dedicated to open research in Artificial Intelligence. Our team is laser-focused on few, high-impact projects in frontier AI.

Led by world-class scientists, Kyutai conducts cutting-edge research on multimodal, adaptable and compact models. Less than 2 years after its start, Kyutai has delivered several ground-breaking models: Moshi, the first full-duplex voice AI allowing natural spoken dialogue with latency under 200ms and no imposed speaker turns; Helium-1, a very compact and powerful multi-lingual open language model; Hibiki, the first voice-to-voice simultaneous translation model that preserves voice and can run on a mobile; MoshiVis, the first visual-speech model to allow natural spoken dialogue around visual content; Unmute, a voice AI that empowers any text LLM with voice, instantly, by wrapping it with Kyutai's streaming speech-to-text and text-to-speech.

Accelerating its daring journey, Kyutai is seeking outstanding researchers to develop and lead impact-driven projects in fields like language and speech models, machine listening, computer vision, and world models.


Your missions

As a Senior Research Scientist at Kyutai, you will:

  • Set ambitious research goals and associated roadmaps

  • Organise, lead and support a team to achieve these goals

  • Contribute directly to the research

  • Publish reproducible research with models and codes

  • Mentor interns, PhDs students and more junior staff

  • Be a role model

  • Contribute to strategic partnerships of Kyutai

  • Contribute to Kyutai's external visibility

  • Contribute to Kyutai's long-term vision with leadership team



About you

  • Recognised researcher in ML or related fields

  • 10+ years of experience in competitive environments

  • Excellent publication track record in premiere venues

  • Key contributions to impactful projects

  • Good mentoring experience

  • Experience with leading a small team toward clear objectives

  • Hands-on experience with multi-GPU model training

  • Extreme focus and dedication
