Lead Product Designer

Your mission

As the Lead Product Design, you will be the pillar of design craft and execution excellence within the team. Your mission is to directly elevate the quality and consistency of our end-to-end user experience across all touchpoints. You will actively guide, mentor, and inspire our product designers, ensuring we deliver stunning, high-performing products that meet the highest bar of UX/UI.

You will play a crucial role in enhancing our product design and user experience across all our platforms. BlaBlaCar is evolving from a single carpooling product to a leading online travel agency (OTA) for ground transport, encompassing carpool, bus, and train services across our markets.

You will report directly to the CPO, championing design excellence and fostering a culture of innovation to deliver seamless and inspiring shared travel experiences for our +120 million members across 21 countries. Your leadership will directly shape the future of our product, making travel accessible everywhere to anyone.

Your responsibilities

• Design Excellence & Craft:
• Drive the creation of exceptional and intuitive user experiences through direct, hands-on contribution to key design challenges
• Own and evolve PIXAR, our design system, ensuring product consistency, technical feasibility, and scalability for future initiatives

• Oversee the entire design process from concept through delivery, setting a non-negotiable bar for quality and consistent design standards

• Team Leadership & Mentorship:

• Drive, manage, and lead our team of product designers, focusing on accountability for delivery, quality, and output
• Actively mentor the team, focusing on raising the collective bar for design execution and craft. Provide clear, constructive guidance on design methodologies and best practices

• Ensure the team's continuous professional development and growth is aligned with business needs.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Collaborate closely with Product Management, Engineering, and Growth to efficiently translate product goals into impactful, high-quality design solutions

• Be the voice of the user within the company, advocating for solutions grounded in research and design best practices

• Strategic Design & Vision

• Architect the Design Strategy: Build and deploy a clear, impactful design strategy that aligns with and advances the overall Product and Business objectives
• Translate the product vision into a cohesive, long-term design roadmap that elevates the entire user journey.

Your qualifications

• Proven Leadership Experience:
  Proven experience (8+ years) in a leadership role within product design, preferably in the online travel, e-commerce, or marketplace industry
• Mastery of Craft
  : Demonstrated expertise in UX/UI design, research methodologies, and direct design production. Deep expertise in design systems (like PIXAR) and leveraging them to drive consistency and scalability is essential
• Exceptional Mentorship
  : Proven ability to build, inspire, and mentor product design teams, with a focus on tactical guidance and career development
• Collaborative Mindset:
  Effective communication and collaboration skills, with experience working with cross-functional teams in an agile development environment. Proven ability to integrate feedback constructively in a fast-paced environment.
• Technical Understanding
  : Solid understanding of how design translates into development, ensuring feasibility and efficient implementation
• Strategic Acumen
  : Ability to build and deploy a design strategy that directly impacts and supports the broader Product and business strategy
• Language Proficiency
  : Full working proficiency in English
