Post-doctoral fellow on ID01 in "picosecond full field diffraction imaging of electronic devices"
il y a 2 heures
Context & Job Description
The European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) is looking for a motivated post doc to join ID01, a world leading beamline dedicated to micro-/nano-beam diffraction imaging experiments. For the study of epitaxial systems and devices by time resolved full field diffraction microscopy the ID01 team has successfully carried out lighthouse experiments that attract collaborators and users worldwide. This project received funding from the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology, and Space in Germany (BMFTR) in the framework of a ErUM-Pro call. The successful applicant will collaborate with a network of collaborators in Germany from universities in Kiel and Magdeburg and research and technology organisations (IKZ Berlin and Fraunhofer Institute) who are studying applied materials and devices in the time domain. This requires the integration and testing of hardware components such as X-ray optics, gating-, and triggering electronics. The successful candidate will assume a key leadership and coordination role within the partner consortium, engaging directly with PhD students and research teams from collaborating institutes. They will also be expected to develop a personalized research agenda that leverages the distinctive capabilities of this instrumental development. The system facilitates time-resolved studies, from sub-second down to 100 picoseconds, through thermal or electric driving of samples and devices. The core beamline staff benefits from significant support and expertise from a rotating group of visiting scientists and PhD students, who contribute through external grants and collaborative projects with research institutes globally.
As a Post Doc At ID01, You Will
- Conduct cutting-edge research and exploit and drive ID01's time resolved diffraction imaging program, essentially using full field diffraction. In this field and in coordination with our partner consortium you will develop your own in-house research project in consultation with your supervisor.
- Drive technical developments, ensuring continuous upgrades and improvements of the beamline instrumentation.
- Collaborate with international experts, working closely with a multidisciplinary team.
- Present and publish your research findings in conferences, workshops, and peer-reviewed journals.
Expected profile
Educational Qualifications
- PhD in a STEM field and several years of postdoctoral experience in physics, chemistry, or another closely related field.
Technical Skills
- Experience with X-ray diffraction, X-ray optics, or related experimental techniques would be desirable.
- A background in scientific programming would be an important asset
- Strong background in experimental research, preferably in the development and application of scattering/diffraction techniques
Soft Skills
- Ambition to develop and lead research projects, from proposal to publication, favoring and encouraging collaborative work.
- Ability to prioritize and communicate efficiently in a fast paced environment of a large scale user facility.
- Ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate activities with internal and external colleagues.
- Hands-on approach with a dedication to experimental work.
- Strong communication skills, with experience in presenting research findings at conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
- Fluency in English (working language at ESRF).
Working conditions
Contract of 18 months, renewable for a further 6 to 18-month period.
