THE ROLE
We're looking for a
Patent Counsel / Patent Agent with in-house corporate experience
to join DeepIP as an embedded product partner.

You've lived the reality of building and managing IP inside a company: aligning with R&D, shaping invention capture, balancing speed vs. risk, handling stakeholders, and translating business goals into patent strategy. You'll bring that perspective directly into the product, ensuring DeepIP supports how in-house teams
actually
work—across invention disclosure, portfolio strategy, outside counsel collaboration, and filing decisions.

AS AN IP IN-HOUSE - PRODUCT SPECIALIST AT DeepIP, YOU WILL
Design for in-house workflows

• Map real in-house processes (invention capture, disclosure review, committee decisions, budgeting, outside counsel coordination, KPI tracking) into product workflows.
• Ensure the product supports collaboration between inventors, legal, R&D, and external firms.
• Bring pragmatism: "what gets used internally" vs. "what's theoretically perfect."

Embed strategic IP thinking into the product

• Help us reflect how in-house teams assess inventions: competitive landscape, product roadmap alignment, freedom-to-operate considerations, defensive vs. offensive value, and portfolio goals.
• Define how our product should support different filing strategies (continuations, provisionals, prioritization, international strategy) in a practical way.
• Translate strategy into product requirements, guardrails, and UX.

Own quality and risk standards

• Define clear quality bars for outputs depending on context (quick disclosure vs. filing-ready drafting support).
• Review outputs and product behavior to ensure clarity, consistency, and professional defensibility.
• Identify risk areas (confidentiality, inventorship, overclaiming/underclaiming, disclosure sufficiency) and help build mitigations into product flows.

Partner tightly with Product & Engineering

• Provide fast, high-signal feedback on features, prototypes, and drafts.
• Help build evaluation frameworks (rubrics, example sets, test scenarios) that reflect in-house realities.
• Support prioritization by articulating impact: what saves time, reduces outside counsel spend, improves invention quality, or increases filing confidence.

Be the voice of the corporate user

• Join customer conversations with in-house teams and convert insights into actionable specs.
• Validate that the product works across different corporate contexts (large orgs vs. scale-ups; hardware vs. software; centralized vs. distributed R&D).

About You

• You have in-house experience as a Patent Counsel / Patent Agent (or equivalent), working directly with R&D and business stakeholders.
• You've managed end-to-end processes such as invention harvesting, disclosure reviews, portfolio decisions, and coordinating with outside counsel.
• You can explain trade-offs clearly: speed vs. quality, cost vs. coverage, business value vs. legal risk.
• You communicate exceptionally well with cross-functional teams (engineers, product people, designers).
• You're hands-on: you like testing product flows, reviewing outputs, and driving iterative improvement.

Bonus points if you have

• Experience building or improving internal IP processes (disclosure programs, review committees, portfolio dashboards).
• Familiarity with IP budgeting / outside counsel management.
• Experience across multiple jurisdictions (EP/US/UK) or international filing strategy.
• Curiosity about AI tools and comfort evaluating AI-assisted outputs.

• Live Case Study (with the Product Leadership Team) – A live working session on a realistic case to understand how you think and collaborate. We'll focus on in-house IP workflows and product trade-offs (quality vs. speed vs. risk), and how you turn domain insights into clear product requirements.
• Co-founder Interview – Final alignment on ownership, pace, and vision.
