About the job

We are looking for an experienced Director of Toxicology to lead pre-clinical safety strategy within a growing biotech based in France.

This role sits at the core of the preclinical development organisation and plays a key role in advancing small-molecule programmes from early discovery through IND-enabling studies, supporting progression toward first-in-human trials. You will work closely with project teams and external partners to ensure safety risks are understood early and managed effectively, enabling confident development decisions.

What You'll Do

  • Own and shape the pre-clinical toxicology strategy across multiple programmes
  • Act as the toxicology lead on project teams, providing clear, practical guidance on safety risk and development options
  • Design and oversee preclinical safety studies, including general tox, safety pharmacology, genotox, and reproductive tox where needed
  • Interpret complex data and communicate findings clearly to project teams and senior leadership
  • Provide toxicology input to IND submissions and support interactions with the FDA
  • Manage CROs and external vendors, ensuring studies are delivered to high scientific and regulatory standards
  • As the organisation grows, help build and mentor internal toxicology capability

What We're Looking For

  • PhD (or equivalent) in Toxicology, Pharmacology, or a related discipline
  • Substantial industry experience in nonclinical toxicology within biotech, pharma, or a CRO
  • A strong track record of supporting compounds through IND-enabling development
  • Solid understanding of FDA and ICH nonclinical safety expectations
  • Confidence making and defending safety-related decisions in a fast-moving environment
