Purpose of the Role

As a Friction Engineer, you will be responsible for the development and validation of friction materials for OEM customers. This includes ensuring alignment with internal design standards while meeting customer requirements for performance, cost, and quality. A strong emphasis is placed on standardisation and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

Communication & Coordination

  • Act as the primary technical interface between friction suppliers, OEM customers, and internal stakeholders (e.g., project teams, purchasing).
  • Coordinate technical activities related to friction development within application or acquisition projects.

Project Execution

  • Lead the mechanical product solution for assigned projects, ensuring delivery is on time, on spec, and on budget.
  • Define and coordinate friction material specifications and technical documentation for customer submission.
  • Create and manage Design Validation Plans (DVPs) in collaboration with friction suppliers, ensuring customer specifications are met and supported by technical reports.
  • Monitor and validate Process Data Sheets with friction suppliers.
  • Manage the definition and coordination of friction parts required for both internal and external (customer) needs.

Professional Competencies

  • Deep understanding of brake systems and friction material behaviour.
  • Familiarity with product development within the automotive V-cycle, including validation processes, test benches, and related equipment.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Previous experience working as a friction interface is a plus.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in the friction or brake industry preferred
  • Familiarity with friction material suppliers and interface coordination is advantageous
