Biomedical Engineer Traineeship, F/H

Based on technology developed at the Institut Pasteur and Institut Curie, Avatar Medical uses advanced image processing algorithms coupled with extended reality (XR) to transform medical images into lifelike patient avatars. This vehicle grants surgeons, patients, and students an intuitive and powerful means of understanding the intricacies of medical imaging data.

We are offering an exciting internship opportunity within our R&D Team. The successful candidate will work on a challenging project consisting in the development and execution of powerful AI-based and non-AI based approaches to accelerate medical image annotation and validation thereof. This is a multidisciplinary project that combines medical imaging, image processing and collaboration with radiology experts.

The successful candidate will also contribute to the development of the two product releases that will happen during their internship, including internal functional and performance testing, testing with doctor users, technical documentation proofreading. This will give you a unique opportunity to discover all the behind the scenes of commercializing software as a medical device (SaMD). The successful candidate may also contribute to sales and support activities. This internship is a valuable opportunity to discover a multitude of roles as a biomedical engineer in a SaMD start-up

Responsibilities:

• Work with our AI team to benchmark and document the performance of our AI models with respect to our clinical use cases
• Design, develop and execute workflows for high-fidelity medical image annotation using third-party and in-house tools
• Perform scoring and quality validation of the AI models with medical experts
• Rigorously review annotations and inferred results in conjunction with external radiology exports
• Contribute to internal functional and performance testing, testing with doctor users, technical documentation proofreading, sales and support activities

Required Skills:

• Currently enrolled in a biomedical engineering program
• Experience with Python or 3D Slicer or ImageJ or similar tools
• Familiarity with image processing (filtering, convolutions, segmentation, Fourier transforms, etc)
• Confirmed problem-solving skills and ability to work well in a team
• Technophile: exceptional computer proficiency and literacy, quick learner and strong debugging skills

Nice-to-Have

Experience

(not required, but a plus):

• CAD, Unity, Unreal computer graphics experience
• Proficiency in English (French language proficiency is not mandatory)
