Job Summary
The HyLighter collect high-value datasets (LiDAR, imagery, methane) to help utilities and infrastructure operators maintain their assets with
lower cost and carbon impact
. We are now building the
data platform
that transforms this raw sensor data into actionable insights for our clients.

As
Head of Data Platform / Tech Lead
, you will be the technical leader responsible for designing, building, and securing this platform end-to-end: from ingestion pipelines to geospatial storage,
processing, visualization, and client delivery
. You will work hands-on with cloud services, open-source geospatial libraries, and lead the small team that will grow around you.

The Mission
Under the guidance of our CTO and in collaboration with the technical and regulatory teams, your responsibilities will include:

Architecture & Foundations

  • Define and implement the architecture of our geospatial data platform (storage, processing, databases, APIs).
  • Ensure scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency from MVP to production.
  • Drive DevOps best practices (CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, performance monitoring).

Data Engineering

  • Build and maintain geospatial data pipelines for LiDAR (PDAL), Sentinel, DEM, and methane analytics.
  • Structure metadata catalogs (STAC, PostGIS/Timescale) and manage efficient storage systems for large raster/vector datasets.
  • Optimize data delivery formats (COG, EPT, 3D Tiles) for seamless integration into analytical and visualization tools.
  • Collaborate with product teams to make geospatial data accessible via APIs and client applications.

Security & Best Practices

  • Implement and enforce access control, encryption, and audit logging mechanisms.
  • Support SOC 2 / ISO 27001 readiness by applying data protection and compliance best practices.

Technical Skills

  • Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS (Lambda, S3, ECS/EKS), Terraform, GitLab/GitHub CI/CD, FinOps mindset.
  • Data Engineering: Python, PySpark, GeoPandas, Rasterio, PDAL, DuckDB, PostGIS, TimescaleDB.
  • Geospatial Analytics: DEM processing, Sentinel imagery, LiDAR point clouds, 3D modeling (Gempy).
  • Backend & APIs: FastAPI, Flask; containerization with Docker/Kubernetes.
  • Security: RBAC/SSO (Auth0, Cognito), encryption, audit logs, GDPR familiarity.
  • Monitoring & Logging: ELK Stack, Databricks, Airflow orchestration.

  • Strong sense of ownership, ability to go from architecture to hands-on coding.
  • Excellent communication: can explain complex systems simply to business stakeholders.
  • Leadership mindset: mentoring and structuring a growing engineering team.
