We're at a pivotal moment in our journey—scaling across multiple countries while handling some of our members' most sensitive data and building increasingly sophisticated health products that require thoughtful privacy-by-design approaches. As we mature, the complexity and impact of privacy decisions grow exponentially, making this role critical to our continued success.
That is where you come in.
You'll work at the intersection of privacy, AI, health, product, and innovation—contributing to Alan's position on opportunities and risks as early as the strategy and roadmapping stage. With tens of features or completely new services that can involve novel uses of health data being discussed or launched every couple of months, you'll need to find radical shortcuts and paint the bigger picture behind individual ideas.
Examples of challenges you'll tackle:
- How can we design health products that balance personnalization with privacy?
- How can we anticipate the biggest regulatory changes to come?
- How do we navigate evolving data residency and sovereignty requirements as we expand internationally?
- How do we guide our team to implement product compliance frameworks, including for responsible use of AI in our services?
- How do we build trust with regulators while maintaining our innovation pace and member experience?
You won't just answer these questions—you'll shape how Alan navigates them.
You'll be a key contributor to Alan's privacy and product compliance program and an owner of its operational implementation:
- Working and growing alongside our team of senior digital and privacy experts: François Zannotti, Camille Leflour, Marion Bergeret, the security team and user care experts.
- Becoming an integral part of the team working on Alan's product: you will work closely with Alan's Product Management, Data, Health professionals Operations, Design, and Engineering communities on a daily basis.
Your key goal will be to scale our distributed and transparent Legal function across the full breadth of our product — creating frameworks, automations, and training resources that empower the team to make sound decisions autonomously. Rather than being a gatekeeper, you'll be a business-enabler who helps the entire organization think about health, privacy and regulation proactively. You'll help position Alan as a thought leader in healthcare innovation, contributing to industry discussions, engaging with regulators proactively. Your work will influence not just Alan's approach, but how the broader healthcare industry thinks about balancing innovation with regulation in health.
In keeping with Alan's culture, the team is not hierarchical. We all collaborate, brainstorm, and help each other make the best decisions. Work is not delegated—you'll identify the priorities and the projects where you can create the most value and own them end-to-end.
If you have some of the following, you may be a great fitYou may be a great fit at Alan if you have:
- At least 2-3 years of experience working in Privacy, IT, and technology advisory at a top law firm, with hands-on experience working with product teams.
- French and/or foreign bar qualifications.
- Strong written communication skills and structure, demonstrated through experience leading complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
- The ability to simplify and propose clear trade-offs and solutions—you'll interact with non-lawyers daily.
- Strong GDPR expertise across multiple jurisdictions (France preferred, or Spain or Belgium), familiarity with Canadian privacy regulations is a plus.
- A very good level of written and spoken English (everyone at Alan works in English).
- Passion for the impact of privacy on people and businesses, and excitement about thinking pragmatically about risks while keeping members' interests top of mind.
- An open mindset—you're fun to work with, stimulated by sophisticated interactions, and eager to learn and grow.
- A natural contrarian spirit who enjoys deviating from market practices and finding our own solutions.
- (As a plus) Fluency in French.
- (As a plus) Experience in the health space or with health clients.
