Senior Construction Project Manager

DATA4 Group finances, designs, constructs and operates its own data centers. Delivered through our data center campus model, we provide our customers with secure, scalable and high-performance data hosting solutions.

We are looking for Construction Project Manager to manage design and construction of data centers and major renovation projects. Their missions and responsibilities are following:

Administrative/permitting:

• Follow up on pending permitting requests (building permit and/or environmental authorization) and maintain understanding of where they are at in the process.
• Prioritize deadlines and deliverables to ensure projects are on track and in compliance with the statement of work.
• Manage relationships with local and national administrative authorities to ensure smooth regulatory processes.
• Prepare and coordinate environmental authorization applications, working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Compile and submit administrative permit applications (e.g., building permits, development permits), ensuring regulatory compliance and completeness of documentation.
• Monitor regulatory developments and administrative changes that may impact project permitting requirements.

Design phase

• Support entire design phase to ensure that the target data center meets Data4's and Customer's needs
• Lead engineering teams for the design phases
• Act as interface between Operations and Design teams throughout the project.

Construction & Commissioning Phase

• Actively participate in the tendering phase and awarding of contracts for the implementation part
• Track project updates, project status, uncovering and relaying issues, solutions resolution and cost/budget associated with each project.
• Monitor the realization phase daily to ensure that the work complies with the contracts
• Manage the respect of the Health and Safety rules during the whole construction phase
• Manage service providers with a direct contractual link with the project owner ( energy provider, control office, safety coordinator, CSI, design office, architect, property owner, project manager, etc.)
• Act as an interface between the Operations and Construction teams throughout the project
• Manage the commissioning operations in relation with the Commissioning Agent and the project management
• Gradually put the operations team of the future site in a position to take over the site as soon as it is made available (training on the technical packages, documentation, drafting of simplified procedures, etc.),

Project Management

• Conduct all meetings necessary to manage the project, in relation with the general contractor, project management team, and the final customer
• Document the project, including as-built documentation
• Generate the reporting required for this type of operation
• Ensure the budgetary follow-up of the project in collaboration with the prime contractor and the finance department of Data4
• Financial oversight on capital budget allocation, expense, and cost.
• Implement automation tools and techniques to streamline and enhance processes.

Transversal Missions

• Elaboration of a Data4 Design Specification
• Assistance to Sales/Pre-Sales teams in complex pre-sales processes involving technical and design issues
• Participation in customer audits for the design of Data Centers
• Leading specific missions (if applicable; example: uptime certification, reliability studies, etc.)
• Supporting the operational team on specific subjects
• Technical referent for our Key Accounts and Hyperscalers customers

Technology Watch

• Ensure the technological watch on the best practices of design and implementation of data centers at the international level
• Participation, if necessary, in specialized events
• Visits to Data Centers (customers, competitors, others.)

Experience Required
Education and experience

• Ideally a graduate of higher education (Engineer or equivalent) in the field of electrical/climate engineering or generalist, the training is not a prerequisite, the quality of experience, knowledge of the market and personal qualities take precedence over the rest.
• Experience: at least 5 years within a construction project management company, a design office, or even an installer on project management issues, allowing to have significant knowledge in areas where continuity of service is essential and technical knowledge allowing to pilot the various areas concerned.

Technical skills

The candidate must possess the following skills:

• Proven track record in project management, preferably in the hosting or service integration industries
• Experience managing projects in an occupied site (preferred)
• Proven skills and taste for cross-functional team management and teamwork to lead projects
• Good level in civil works and/or HVAC and/or Electrical and/or Security/Networks and/or BMS
• Knowledge in general design of industrial buildings with issues close to Data Centers (continuity of service, security, etc.),
• Proven ability to work under pressure and with others
• Ability to work simultaneously with several projects
• Ability to analyze and summarize
• Ability to "popularize" the technique and the benefits for non-experts thanks to a discourse adapted to the interlocutor and to their needs and constraints
• Good command of document writing
• Mastery of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project and AutoCAD applications.
• English with a very good written/oral level

The candidate does not require the following, but it would be an advantage

• Project Management training such as PMI or equivalent
• Experience working in English-speaking environments
