Whether it's managing a complex M&A transaction, controlling litigation spend, or implementing new legal technology, the right Fractional Legal Project Manager ensures legal matters are delivered on time and on budget—without the overhead of a full-time Director of Legal Ops.
We're looking to connect with experienced Legal Project Managers who can apply rigorous project management methodologies to the legal sector. If you are a master of scope, a guardian of budgets, and thrive on bringing order to complex workflows, this is a great opportunity to apply your skills flexibly while transforming how legal teams work.
This role is ideal for professionals who sit at the intersection of law and business—translating complex legal strategies into actionable project plans on a part-time, deal-based, or advisory basis.
Key responsibilities may include:
Matter Scoping & Planning: Defining clear objectives, timelines, and deliverables for complex legal matters (litigation, transactions, or regulatory changes).
Budget Management: Tracking legal spend, forecasting costs, and managing accruals to prevent budget overruns.
Resource Allocation: coordinating internal legal staff and external vendors (ALSPs, eDiscovery providers) to ensure optimal efficiency.
Outside Counsel Management: Enforcing billing guidelines and acting as the operational liaison between in-house teams and law firms.
Process Improvement: Identifying bottlenecks in legal workflows and implementing "lean" methodologies.
Legal Tech Implementation: Overseeing the rollout or optimization of tools like CLM (Contract Lifecycle Management) or e-Billing systems.
Status Reporting: Creating clear dashboards for stakeholders to visualize matter progress and financial health.
Required qualities may include:
Proven experience in Legal Project Management, Legal Operations, or a relevant role within a law firm or corporate legal department.
Certification in project management (PMP, PRINCE2, or agile) or legal project management (CLIPP, IILPM) is highly valued.
Strong financial acumen and proficiency with Excel, e-Billing, and matter management software.
Ability to communicate effectively with both high-level attorneys and business stakeholders.
Experience managing "scope creep" and navigating the dynamics of high-pressure legal environments.
Familiarity with the lifecycle of litigation and corporate transactions.
Prior freelance, consulting, or fractional operations experience is a plus.
