Senior Product Manager — Protocol

About Usual

Usual was born from a simple observation: dominant stablecoins operate like centralized banks — they capture billions in revenue and don't redistribute it. In parallel, most crypto tokenomics have failed to deliver long-term fairness, favoring insiders over users.

We're here to change that.

Usual is the first stablecoin protocol that gives back ownership and value to its users. By turning users into stakeholders, we're building a more equitable financial infrastructure — one where value flows back to the community.

In just a few months, we built and launched a full protocol from scratch, introduced a new kind of stablecoin backed by tokenized US Treasuries (USD0), its yield-bearing counterpart (bUSD0), and a revenue-sharing governance token ($USUAL). The protocol reached $1.8B in TVL at its peak and continues to evolve with major product and governance upgrades.

We're a small, focused team of DeFi natives with a strong execution track record and a clear ambition: build category-defining financial infrastructure.

Your Role — Product Manager

We're looking for a Product Manager to join Usual Lab and take a central role in building our most ambitious unreleased product, scheduled for launch in 2026.

This is a foundational PM role inside a tight, autonomous squad.

You will initially focus on delivery, specifications, and execution rigor, then progressively expand into a broader PM role covering product discovery, strategy, and long-term roadmap ownership.

You'll act as the product captain of the squad — ensuring clarity, alignment, and predictable delivery — while working hand-in-hand with engineering, design, and protocol teams.

Your Mission
Lock Delivery & Specs (PO-heavy)

Your initial focus will be to make delivery predictable and efficient:

  • Own the backlog across product and protocol — one source of truth.

  • Ensure everything entering delivery is ready (clear scope, specs, acceptance criteria).

  • Drive PRDs and coordinate Tech Specs with engineering.

  • Run planning, grooming, and delivery cadence.

  • Act as the product quality gate (acceptance, not manual QA).

  • Reduce execution noise, last-minute scope changes, and rework.

Expand to Full PM Scope

Once delivery and specs run smoothly without absorbing all your time, you'll progressively:

  • Lead product discovery and problem framing.

  • Contribute to product strategy and long-term vision.

  • Define success metrics and trade-offs.

  • Shape the roadmap for a product with real scale and impact.

You Will
  • Translate complex protocol mechanics into clear product specs and flows.

  • Write strong PRDs that engineers and designers can execute against.

  • Maintain alignment across design, frontend, backend, and protocol.

  • Anticipate dependencies and surface risks early.

  • Balance speed, quality, and ambition in a fast-moving environment.

  • Be deeply involved in shipping — not just planning.

You Have
  • 4+ years of experience as a Product Manager (or equivalent role).

  • Strong experience with delivery-driven PM / PO responsibilities.

  • Ability to write clear specs for complex technical products.

  • Comfort working with engineers on protocol-level or backend-heavy systems.

  • Strong judgment around scope, sequencing, and trade-offs.

  • Experience in DeFi, fintech, or other financial infrastructure products.

You Are
  • Highly autonomous and execution-oriented.

  • Structured, clear, and opinionated — but collaborative.

  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and early-stage environments.

  • Energized by building from scratch and owning outcomes.

  • Genuinely interested in DeFi and crypto-native products.

What Success Looks Like
  • Delivery is predictable, calm, and well-scoped.

  • Specs are clear, actionable, and trusted by engineers.

  • The squad ships consistently with minimal rework.

  • Product discovery and strategy gain momentum over time.

  • You become a key driver of product quality and direction.

Why Join Us?
  • Build a flagship product at the frontier of DeFi.

  • Work in a small team with real ownership.

  • Ship real products with real users and real stakes.

  • Competitive salary and token options.

  • Remote-first, async-friendly culture.
