Vice President, Drug Discovery – NeuroscienceLocation: Flexible / Hybrid Reporting to: Chief Scientific OfficerThe RoleThe Vice President of Drug Discovery, Neuroscience will provide scientific, strategic, and operational leadership across the company's neuroscience discovery portfolio. This individual will be responsible for shaping discovery strategy, advancing high-quality assets from target identification through preclinical development, and building a high-performing, multidisciplinary neuroscience organisation. Key ResponsibilitiesSet and execute the neuroscience drug discovery strategy aligned with corporate and pipeline objectives. Lead and oversee multiple discovery and preclinical programmes across neurological and neuropsychiatric indications, from target validation through candidate selection.
Provide scientific leadership across disease biology, translational strategy, and modality selection (e.g. small molecules, biologics, gene or RNA-based approaches, as relevant). Build, lead, and mentor high-performing cross-functional teams spanning biology, chemistry, DMPK, pharmacology, and translational sciences. Ensure strong scientific rigor, decision-making, and milestone delivery across the portfolio, managing resources, budgets, and external spend effectively. Drive integration of translational models, biomarkers, and human-relevant data to de-risk programmes and support clinical entry.
Partner closely with CMC, toxicology, regulatory, and clinical teams to enable smooth transition from discovery into development. Identify, evaluate, and lead external collaborations, academic partnerships, and CRO engagements. Contribute to IP strategy, working with legal teams on invention disclosure, patent strategy, and freedom-to-operate considerations. Support business development activities, including scientific diligence, partnering discussions, and interactions with investors and senior stakeholders.
Candidate ProfilePhD (or equivalent) in Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Pharmacology, or a related discipline. Significant industry experience in neuroscience drug discovery, with a strong track record of advancing programmes into preclinical development and/or the clinic. Deep understanding of neuroscience disease biology, translational challenges, and model systems. Proven leadership experience managing senior scientists and cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.
Experience
setting portfolio strategy and making data-driven go/no-go decisions at a senior level. Strong communication and influencing skills, with experience engaging at executive, board, and external partner level. Prior experience in biotech and/or pharma environments; scale-up or platform-based experience is a plus.
