Sarvodaya Institute is a 501c3 nonprofit organization headquartered in Pomona CA which operates Sarvodaya Farms & Nursery.
Sarvodaya Farms & Nursery is a 12 year old urban farm sitting on ¾ acre in the historic city of Pomona. Our farm is respected throughout the county as a pioneer in urban farming. We operate an extensive plant nursery, offer the county’s longest running Farmer Training Program, operate a food pantry, tend a highly varied mini-botanic garden, and offer a variety of adult and kids educational programming.
Job Description
Our Assistant Farm Manager position will have a hand in conducting all of our listed programming below and working hand-in-hand with our Farm Manager. This position requires applicants to have at least 2 years of experience maintaining gardens, farms, nurseries, or other green spaces, customer service skills to guide nursery customers, and a commitment to community upliftment. A Day Of Work For This Position Could Include: Propagation and care of nursery stock Helping customers coming in to purchase plants Maintaining plants & trees in our gardens Harvesting fruits & vegetables from our gardens Creating flyers for and publicizing community workshops Organizing for a community food distribution Leading farmer trainees in a learning activity Expect to be on your feet most of the day. This position is compensated by salary, but we maintain a fairly strict limitation on hours worked, with no working time outside of normal business hours except in case of emergency (irrigation leak, etc). Minimum Requirements 2 years minimum experience maintaining gardens, farms, nurseries, or other green spaces No degree requirements or certifications required Must have legal work authorization Computer literacy (bonus: knowledge of Shopify, Canva, skills with spreadsheets) Basic math, arithmetic, and writing skills Customer service (bonus: retail experience) Community oriented personality Comfort with leading workshops and trainings Comfortable with physical work (able to work in the sun, lift 50 lbs) BONUS: Bilingual English and Spanish Top Benefits Or Perks: As a team member at Sarvodaya Institute, you’ll enjoy:

$43,680–$46,800 per year (based on a 40-hour work week) Hours: Tuesday–Saturday, 7:30am–3:30pm, including a paid lunch break.
