Job Description
Our team is the secret to our success. We are proud to be working with inspiring colleagues who are smart, fun, ambitious and looking for the challenge to transform an industry. Do you think this could be you? To pursue our ambitious vision, we are looking for a Senior Solar Array Engineer. In this position, you will own the mechanical design of core subsystems of our next-generation ultra-light deployable solar array, from concept through qualification all the way to volume production, and help shape a growing engineering team alongside former SpaceX engineers. Your Mission Will Be To Design, develop and qualify key mechanical subsystems of an extremely lightweight deployable solar array, taking end-to-end ownership of a major share of the mechanical architecture, including panel structure and PV integration Drive design trades and analyses (structural, thermal, mechanism kinematics) from early concept through detailed design and test Get hands-on with hardware for prototype assembly, deployment testing, system integration, and production line development Build robust, flight-proven solutions that meet aggressive mass and volume targets in demanding launch and orbital environments Define and execute the integration, verification and validation strategies for your subsystems Mentor junior mechanical engineers and serve as a technical reference for solar array design practices Requirements 5+ years of hands-on experience in spacecraft or launch vehicle mechanical design, ideally with direct exposure to solar array or deployable panel structures, within a fast-paced New Space environment Multiple full development cycles under your belt: you have taken hardware from blank sheet to orbit (or launch pad) more than once Deep expertise in lightweight structural design, deployable mechanisms, and ideally PV panel integration Fluency with CAD (e.g. CATIA, Siemens NX) and FEA tools; comfort with hand calculations to sanity-check results Strong analytical skills, a proactive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills and unbounded curiosity Autonomy, and a willingness to be fully responsible for a significant part of the finished product A proven track record of delivering reliable systems for harsh environments A willingness to mentor juniors and provide technical leadership for solar array design Professional level English — further languages welcome
