About The Company
Alice & Bob is at the forefront of quantum computing innovation, dedicated to developing the first universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer capable of solving some of the most complex problems faced by the world today. Our groundbreaking approach leverages a novel superconducting qubit known as the Schrödinger cat qubit, which possesses the remarkable ability to implement quantum error correction autonomously. This technological advancement positions Alice & Bob as a leader in the quantum industry, striving to revolutionize computing power across various sectors including scientific research, cryptography, and large-scale data processing. Our team comprises passionate experts in quantum physics, engineering, and software development, all committed to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in quantum technology.
About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Staff Engineer to take ownership of the architecture and ongoing development of our quantum software infrastructure. In this pivotal role, you will design and evolve the foundational systems that enable our quantum processors to operate reliably, scalably, and with autonomous error correction capabilities. Your responsibilities will include developing error correction frameworks, quantum compilation stacks, data flow architectures, storage solutions, orchestration layers, and automation pipelines. These systems will transform raw quantum hardware into a production-grade quantum processing unit (QPU) suitable for deployment across high-performance computing (HPC), on-premises, and cloud environments. This role sits at the intersection of system design, data engineering, and quantum control infrastructure, requiring close collaboration with hardware teams, quantum theorists, data engineers, and operations staff to shape the future of scalable quantum computing. Qualifications 12+ years of experience in building large-scale, high-reliability systems, infrastructure layers, or scientific platforms. Proven expertise in architecting complex, data-intensive distributed systems. Exceptional proficiency in Python, asynchronous frameworks, service-oriented architecture, data orchestration, and performance tuning. Deep knowledge of storage technologies including SQL, NoSQL, time-series databases, object storage, and distributed filesystems. Hands-on experience with automation systems such as schedulers, workflow engines, configuration management, and data pipelines. Ability to create clean abstractions and synchronization mechanisms for hardware-software interaction loops. Strong understanding of containerization, Kubernetes, reproducible environments, multi-tenant architectures, and hybrid HPC/cloud deployments. Excellent leadership skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams, align research and hardware groups, and drive modernization initiatives. Responsibilities Define and lead the architecture of the Quantum Infrastructure layer, bridging low-level control software and user-facing services. Collaborate with quantum hardware and control software teams to integrate requirements for qubit calibration, stabilization, and error correction cycles. Design the software backbone supporting real-time and near-real-time feedback mechanisms between hardware and automation systems. Architect data and service layers to support quantum error correction frameworks, including lattice configurations, syndrome extraction workflows, decoding, and long-term state tracking. Develop a robust, scalable quantum circuit compilation stack that allows seamless integration with various frameworks and supports high upgradability. Serve as a technical authority on quantum infrastructure and scalable data system topics, providing guidance and best practices. Mentor senior engineers, influence technical direction, and promote best practices across hardware, data, and platform teams. Drive strategic architectural initiatives, define technical roadmaps, and ensure alignment across organizational units. Benefits Ownership of your work through our BSPCE stock options plan, allowing you to share in the company's success. Substantial bonuses for contributions to core patents that define our quantum architecture. Flexible remote work policy, with the possibility of working up to 40% of the time remotely each month. Comprehensive parental leave benefits, including crèche support and additional days off for caring for children under 12. Subsidized membership with Urban Sports Club for health and wellness activities. Mental health support services provided through moka.care. Generous vacation policy of 25 days per year, plus RTT days, in accordance with French law. Coverage of half transportation costs or an annual bicycle allowance for eco-friendly commuting. Competitive health insurance coverage through Alan. Meal vouchers via Swile and access to a fully stocked, modern kitchen. Opportunity to learn French language courses, fully sponsored by the company for interested employees. Equal Opportunity Alice & Bob is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, regardless of race, gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, or disability. We believe that diverse teams drive innovation and excellence, and we are dedicated to providing equal employment opportunities to all candidates and employees.
