Dalma's ambition is to become the go-to pet insurer in Europe. To get there, we're creating a key position: Chief Insurance Officer (CIO).
You'll own Dalma's insurance strategy end to end — from relationships with our risk carriers to product vision, from risk oversight to pricing supervision — with a dedicated team reporting directly to you and a seat on the Executive Committee (ComEx).
🏗️ Organization & management
You'll lead a team made up of:
A senior actuary
An expert in predictive modeling — notably for our pricing strategy (currently being recruited)
A team of Data experts, in charge of insurance data and analytical support on pricing and churn projects
And work closely with:
Our Product & Tech teams
Our founders
🤝 Carrier strategy & external relations
Lead the relationship and commercial negotiations with our risk carriers
Anticipate renewals and carrier-dependency risks
Build the risk-carrying strategy and prepare structural changes ahead
🏗️ Product architecture & market vision
Own the vision for product evolution — coverage, exclusions, add-ons
Define the insurance product roadmap in partnership with the Product team
Lead competitive intelligence across the French and German markets
📊 Pricing & actuarial oversight
Oversee pricing models, price elasticity, and cohort segmentation
Validate segmentation assumptions and cohort pricing
Be the guardian of the Loss Ratio and projection models
Ensure consistency between pricing decisions and risk exposure
🏛️ Internal governance
Sit on the ComEx as the lead for insurance strategy
Be the direct interface with the founders on strategic decisions
Experience:
~10 years in insurance, ideally in P&C (IARD) or health/protection with a strong data component Insurance expertise: You know insurers from the inside, master the key elements of contracts, and have directly negotiated reinsurance or co-insurance programs Quantitative sensibility: You understand and challenge actuarial pricing and elasticity models — without necessarily being an actuary yourself Business instinct: You've owned a P&L or a product line, not just a technical function Management: You've already led a cross-functional team (actuarial, data, business) Builder mindset: You've worked in environments where you had to build, not just operate Languages: Fluent English required; French or German a plus
Location:
Local contract (Paris, Berlin), or fully remote work is possible (with regular trips to the Paris headquarters—about once a month) Nice-to-haves: Experience at an MGA or insurtech at a comparable growth stage Knowledge of the European pet insurance market (ideally FR/DE) Exposure to embedded/affinity insurance Step 1: Initial HR call Step 2: Interview with one of our founders — strategic fit and vision Step 3: Business case with our founders Step 4: Team fit with members of the Insurance team Step 5: Reference checks
