Job Description

GQ is an editorial powerhouse, with 20 global editions and 30M social followers generating 34M unique visitors every month. In France, GQ reaches an audience of nearly 49M people every month across our multiplatform channels. GQ is hiring a Head of Editorial Content to lead the GQ France editorial team and develop a robust editorial strategy to drive audience growth. 

This role will be responsible for setting a clear editorial vision and strategy, which connects to GQ’s global vision while also serving GQ France’s local audience. The HEC will work closely with the editorial team to assign audience-driving content across platforms, develop engaging editorial tent poles and franchises, and establish a strong creative point of view, while also meeting KPIs and maintaining an efficient workflow. The HEC will also participate in GQ’s global network, to share local content ideas, participate in and help shape global editorial moments, and more. The HEC will be closely involved in collaborating with all editorial, commercial and consumer stakeholders to drive both editorial excellence and revenue growth for the brand. 

Additionally, the HEC will lead and manage GQ France’s editorial team to ensure a positive, empowered working environment. The HEC will work with editors to establish goals, as well as manage team and individual performance. 

A perfect candidate will have a strong editorial point of view and clear editorial strategy for continuing GQ France’s growth. They must have experience managing editorial staff, a keen eye for developing storytelling specific to GQ, a talent for spotting new potential contributors (writers, stylists, photographers), an excellent sense of what celebrities and personalities will appeal to GQ France’s audience, and a strong grasp of GQ France’s tone, voice and editorial point of view. They should be comfortable with both setting high-level and long-term editorial strategy and digging into the daily process of ideation, directing, editing, and packaging content. They should have experience using audience insights to refine their tactics, and be an expert at managing multiple projects and setting strategic priorities. The role is for someone who cares deeply about GQ France’s point of view, the topics we cover, and is enthusiastic about leading a strong and agile team.

Accountabilities/ Responsibilities

Set and oversee local editorial direction and strategy across site, social, video and print (aligned with overall global priorities) to grow audience and drive revenue

Work closely with Global Content Strategy Director, Executive Global Director (Audience Development, Social Media & Analytics) and Global Video Programming & Strategy Director to implement digital, video and social best practices

As part of Global Leadership Committee, contribute story, talent and strategic ideas for all GQ global editorial projects, including global print and digital stories

Oversee all local editorial direction and content production, including assigning stories and setting content lineups 

Work closely with local editorial leadership to ensure efficient content production at a high-level of quality, including signing off on all proofs and flagging content for legal/regional sensitivities

Work closely with Editorial/Content Operations team to achieve editorial content and page budget targets and strategize on editorial content efficiencies across all platforms

Collaborate closely with commercial and consumer revenue teams to support revenue-driving opportunities

Act as in-market brand ambassador, hosting events and liaising with commercial clients as required

Potential to pitch and write stories for digital and print, conducting interviews and reporting as required

Work closely with local HR, Finance, Director of Editorial Operations and Global Editorial Director to ensure efficient team organization; in addition, work across these stakeholders to design and fill any open roles within the GQ France editorial organization

Manage local editorial team including goal setting, resolving conflicts, and focusing on building team morale

Serve as regional representative on the new GQ Global Leadership Team

Desired Skills & Qualifications

10+ years of experience in a senior editorial role, managing and editing teams of writers,editors, and creatives with a keen interest in developing talent and strongexpertise in digital, video, and print media. 

Demonstrated experience in men’s fashion media with strong digital-first focus and connections to French fashion and entertainment industries 

Passion for GQ’s cultural point of view and commitment to setting local editorial vision in line with global editorial direction

Extremely strong editorial skills and experience assigning and editing high-volume of multi-platform content

Proven leader with ability to empower, mentor and inspire nimble editorial team

Creative and innovative thinker who will bring inventive new ideas to editorial development
