Web Development Internship

Lyon, Arrondissement de Lyon, France Pixel Systems Temps plein
We are adding a Web Development Internship to our small team to assist with several active client projects. Currently, we are working with a major European logistics provider expanding its operations, and we need help building and maintaining the internal dashboards they use to track shipments and manage warehouse data. This is a practical role centered on building tools that solve real operational headaches for business teams.

About Pixel Systems
Pixel Systems is a small, remote software agency. We do not build flashy consumer apps or marketing sites that disappear after a month. Instead, we focus on the essential systems that keep a company running, like admin panels, CRM integrations, and database migrations. We are the team people call when they need to move their business data out of a sprawling spreadsheet and into a reliable database. Our approach is straightforward: we provide fixed quotes, perform weekly demos, and hand over everything from the code to the documentation when the work is finished. We use reliable technologies like Node, React, and Postgres because we want the software we build to be stable and easy to maintain.

The role
In this role, you will help us build out functional interfaces and connect different software tools. You will spend your time writing code that moves data from one place to another or cleaning up legacy code to make it more readable for the next developer. Because we are a fully remote team, you will participate in our workflow through written updates and occasional video walkthroughs of your progress. You will not be building experimental features that might never see the light of day. Instead, you will be working on tools that warehouse managers and operations teams use every single morning to do their jobs.

What we are looking for
We need someone who is organized and enjoys the process of making things work correctly. Since this is an internship, we do not expect you to be an expert in every technology, but we do expect you to be curious and willing to learn our specific way of building software. We value the following qualities:
  • A basic understanding of how the web works, specifically HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • The ability to write code that is clean and easy for someone else to read.
  • Good communication habits, including the ability to explain your logic clearly in writing.
  • Comfort working independently in a remote environment without constant supervision.
  • A pragmatic mindset focused on finishing tasks rather than chasing trends.
  • An organized approach to managing your own files and documentation.
  • Honesty about what you know and a willingness to ask questions when you get stuck.

Helpful background
While not strictly required, familiarity with some of the following tools and concepts will help you get started more quickly:
  • Basic experience with React or another modern frontend framework.
  • A general understanding of Node.js for backend tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL and how data is structured in a database like Postgres.
  • Experience using Git and GitHub for version control.
  • Familiarity with pulling data from REST APIs.
  • Previous experience building a small project or participating in a coding bootcamp.

Working at Pixel Systems
Working here is different from working at a large tech company or a fast-moving marketing agency. We are a senior team with no management layers, which means you will work directly with the people building the product. We prioritize clarity and working code over long meetings and complex plans. This position is fully remote, giving you the flexibility to work from your own space. This is a paid internship, and the pay is competitive for the market, reflecting our respect for your time and the work you contribute to our clients. You will get to see your code in production and help solve genuine problems for businesses that depend on our software.
At Pixel Systems, we believe that simple and stable is always better than complex and fragile. We take pride in building software that is so well-documented that it can be maintained for years without drama. As an intern, you will be treated as a colleague and given real meat-and-potatoes development tasks. Our goal is to help you understand how professional software is built, shipped, and maintained in the real world.
