Their innovative solutions support advancements in biomedical and pharmaceutical research, enhancing the predictability and success of clinical studies.


One of the 3 drivers for the company's strategic plan are how levering data will improve their models and therefore bring drugs more quickly and safely to market.

Due to its strong scientific focus and its global pharmaceutical partners, the company generates and has access to a large volume and variety of data. For example:


  • Omics data: expression profile of thousands of proteins/RNAs
  • Bioprocess data: historical data with tens of parameters and hundreds of experiments
  • Business data: historical data with tens of thousands of prospects history
  • Bibliographic data: tens of thousands of documents of interest


Role Overview

We are seeking a Data Science Lead to join their dynamic team and establish and lead the nascent data science function within the organization. You will be instrumental in shaping the data strategy, selecting the right technology solutions and tools, and championing data-driven decision-making across the company. The role reports directly to the CTO.


What You'll Do:


  • Strategy: Define and implement the data science vision and strategy aligned with the company’s objectives
  • Leadership: Build the data science team as the organization grows, starting immediately with one Data Scientist.
  • Technology: Identify and implement the most suitable data science tools and solutions to meet the objectives and scale up the efforts.
  • ML ops: Oversee the development of adequate and efficient data pipelines and processes to ensure the end-to-end data processing is reliable, accurate, scalable, and monitored.
  • Data science: Lead the development of complex ML models (e.g. prediction, clustering, outlier identification, classification, regression, generation) and solutions to enable and promote data-driven insights to support preclinical research.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the software engineering team (7 people) and other departments to integrate data science solutions.
  • Advocacy & Education: Promote data science methodologies and best practices across the organization.
  • Project Management: Oversee data science projects from conception to deployment, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.


Requirements:


Technical Proficiency:

  • Expertise in data science tools and platforms (Databricks, TensorFlow, DataRobot, Palantir, Apache Spark, C3.AI, Weka) and programming languages (e.g., PyTorch, Python, R, Julia, SQL), and familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, D3.js).
  • Extensive experience in data analysis, statistical modelling, ML, and LLM, with a solid understanding of various data science methodologies, their best-practices, and their practical applications.


Skills:

  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets and provide actionable insights.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality results.


Experience & Mindset:

  • Leadership Experience: Proven track record in leading data science projects and teams, demonstrating strong leadership and team-building capabilities.
  • Industry Experience: Minimum 7 years of real-life experience with a variety of data, ideally with exposure to both small and large-scale projects.
  • Innovative Thinking: A proactive and innovative approach, with a passion for exploring new technologies and methodologies in data science.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
