Overview:
We are seeking a skilled IT Infrastructure Technician to join our team in supporting the installation and maintenance of IT systems on board ships. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual with experience in cabling and device installation, particularly in the yachting or cruise line industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring all equipment is properly installed, connected, and configured, as well as troubleshooting and documenting the setup.
Key Responsibilities:
Rack & Stack Installation (40%)
- Install all IT equipment on the ship, including mounting, connecting, and patching.
- Install devices such as phones and TVs on walls.
- Configure TVs using a matrix of IP addresses and inputting given codes; troubleshoot if codes do not work.
- Install Cisco devices (no prior experience required).
Cabling and Activation (30%)
- Ensure cabling is correctly installed by the shipyard; run cables if necessary.
- Activate and test devices, including access points, TVs, phone systems, and IDFs.
- Label and document all cabling and connections.
Troubleshooting and Support (20%)
- Troubleshoot device issues such as mismatches, damaged connectors, improper installations, or missing devices.
- Provide support for connecting and testing devices with Clique.
Documentation and Communication (10%)
- Use Excel to label, document, and manage the infrastructure, applying relevant formulas to streamline processes.
- Collaborate with IT infrastructure teams, ensuring smooth communication and coordination.
Required Technical Skills:
- At least two (2) years previous experience on a cruise vessel in equivalent rank & experience working on shipboard infrastructure
- Cabling Experience: At least 2 years of experience in installing and troubleshooting cabling.
- Device Installation & Troubleshooting: Proficiency in installing and troubleshooting communication devices (phones, TVs, access points, etc.).
- Industry Experience: Experience in the yachting or cruise line industry, with an understanding of the differences between on-ship and on-shore IT infrastructure.
- Excel Proficiency: Ability to use Excel for documentation, labeling, and applying formulas to facilitate patching and other tasks.
- Collaboration: Strong communication skills, with a focus on working collaboratively with IT infrastructure teams.
