We are looking to hire for an Optomechanical Engineer to contribute to the design, development and integration of high-performance optical instruments. This is an opportunity to work with our Space sector client on complex engineering challenges at the intersection of optics, mechanical design and space technology, helping deliver precision systems for demanding operational environments.
Based in Toulouse, you will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle, from initial concept and detailed design through to assembly, integration, testing and qualification.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop optomechanical assemblies for advanced optical payloads and space-based instruments.
- Perform mechanical design, modelling and detailed engineering of precision structures, mounts, housings and optical support systems.
- Ensure optomechanical designs meet stringent requirements for alignment, stability, stiffness, mass and thermal performance.
- Conduct structural and thermal assessments to evaluate system performance under demanding environmental conditions.
- Support the integration and alignment of optical components within mechanical assemblies.
- Contribute to assembly, integration and testing (AIT), including environmental testing and qualification activities.
- Identify and resolve mechanical, thermal and alignment challenges throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Collaborate with optical, mechanical, systems and manufacturing engineers to ensure robust, manufacturable designs.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, engineering drawings, design specifications and verification reports.
- Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments and continuous improvements to engineering processes...
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Optomechanics or a related discipline.
- Experience in optomechanical design, precision mechanical engineering or the development of optical instruments.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, tolerancing, precision assemblies and dimensional stability.
- Experience using 3D CAD software for mechanical design and detailed engineering.
- Knowledge of structural and thermal considerations affecting optical systems and precision assemblies.
- Understanding of optical alignment, mounting techniques and the mechanical interfaces required to support optical components.
- Ability to interpret technical requirements and translate them into practical engineering solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience developing optical payloads, imaging instruments, cameras, telescopes or other precision optical systems.
- Background in the space, aerospace, satellite or scientific instrumentation industries.
- Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA), thermal analysis and tolerance analysis.
- Experience with environmental qualification, vibration testing, thermal vacuum testing or other space-related testing activities.
- Understanding of space environmental constraints and the challenges associated with launching and operating precision optical instruments.
- Experience supporting hardware development from concept and prototyping through to integration and qualification.
What's on Offer?
- The opportunity to contribute to the development of advanced optical payloads for space applications.
- A technically challenging role working with precision optical and mechanical systems.
- Collaboration with experienced engineers across multiple disciplines.
- The opportunity to contribute throughout the full hardware development lifecycle.
- A full-time, permanent position based in Toulouse, France.
