About Murena
Murena SAS builds privacy-respecting mobile and cloud products: /e/OS, a de-Googled Android OS, and Murena Workspace, a cloud suite based on Nextcloud. We are a fully remote, multicultural team and most of our work is open source.
About this role
Murena Workspace, our main product, is built on Nextcloud. You will join the Web team to implement our product roadmap, whose main goal is to unify the B2B and B2C versions of Murena Workspace. We are looking for a versatile full stack developer who adapts to the stack at hand: you build back-end services and APIs, work with databases, and care about the quality of the user interface. You will also help the team apply solid development practices (architecture, CI/CD, quality) to our open-source forks and get up to speed with AI-assisted development tools.
Responsibilities
- Design and build APIs, mainly in PHP and also in Python, Go or Java, depending on the needs of the project
- Design data models and interface with relational and other databases (queries, migrations, performance)
- Contribute to the unification of the B2B and B2C Murena Workspace
- Pay attention to the front end: clean, accessible and consistent user interfaces
- Design software architecture that scales with the user base
- Maintain our Nextcloud-based forks and other open-source forks: keep them in sync with upstream, with proper CI/CD and quality checks
- Review code and share best practices with the team
- Help the team adopt AI-assisted development tools
Requirements
- 5+ years of full stack web development, with strong back-end experience
- Strong PHP experience (the core of our Nextcloud-based stack), plus experience building APIs or services in at least one of Python, Go or Java, and willingness to work in the others
- Experience with databases (SQL and data modelling, e.g. PostgreSQL or MariaDB/MySQL)
- Ability to adapt quickly to new stacks, languages and codebases
- Experience designing maintainable and scalable software architectures
- Experience with CI/CD and automated testing, including shell scripting and containers (Docker)
- Fluent English, written and spoken (mandatory)
- Experience working in a remote team
Nice to have
- Experience with Nextcloud (server, apps or upstream contributions), or with comparable large PHP open-source platforms
- Experience maintaining forks of open-source projects, or contributing upstream
- Interest in, or experience with, AI-assisted development tools
- Contributions to open-source projects
Team
You will work with the web developers and the infrastructure team, and with the product owners of Murena Workspace. We work remotely and asynchronously.
What we offer
- Full-time remote for candidates based in France, flexible hours
- Work on open-source software used by tens of thousands of active users
- A role with real influence on how the team builds and maintains Workspace
Hiring process
Three conversations, then an offer, with no long wait in between:
- Getting to know each other (HR). If your profile looks like a good match, we invite you to a first chat within a week of your application.
- Meeting the technical team. If it goes well, you talk with the people you would work with, the week after.
- Meeting our CEO. If you are selected, a final conversation with our CEO.
- Making you an offer. If everyone is aligned, we send you an offer.
We aim to complete all interviews by mid-November 2026 and to be able to make an offer by the end of November. This may vary depending on the number of applications we receive.
