Spore.Bio is a deeptech startup building a new generation of microbiological quality control for the Pharmaceutical, Food & Beverage, and Cosmetics industries.
Traditional microbiology methods require long incubation times before manufacturers can make critical decisions about product safety and quality. At Spore.Bio, we are developing a radically faster approach combining microbiology, advanced optical technologies, and machine learning to detect and characterize microbial contamination.
We are looking for a Microbiology Ops Specialist to join our Product & CS team and take a key operational role in the deployment, validation, and adoption of our technology at customer sites.
You will work at the intersection of microbiology, customer operations, and R&D, alternating between on-site missions in factories and customer laboratories and hands-on lab work at Spore.Bio, helping turn our technology into a reliable solution used daily in industrial environments.
About the role
- On-site Deployment: Deploy our technology at customer sites, including factories and client laboratories, and support users until they are fully autonomous.
- Microbiological Validation: Validate microbiological results, including identification, cultures, and matrix processing.
- Training & Best Practices: Train operators and help improve microbiology practices on-site.
- Field Troubleshooting: Investigate challenges encountered in the field and provide concrete, creative solutions.
- Customer Success: Contribute to customer success activities and interact regularly with senior managers at major international companies.
- Bridge between Customers and R&D: Act as the link between customer needs and the R&D team, bringing field insights back into product and protocol development.
- Lab Work & Protocol Innovation: Support lab activities at Spore.Bio focused on developing and improving matrix protocols for our technology.
About you
We are looking for someone with strong hands-on microbiology skills who enjoys working in the field and alongside customers.
- Microbiology Expertise: Solid background and hands-on experience in applied or industrial microbiology, including culture, identification, microscopy, sample processing, and microbiological quality control workflows.
- Industrial Mindset: Good understanding of industrial microbiology environments, including routine lab practices, quality constraints, and the operational realities of customers.
- Field Orientation: Curious, hands-on, and resourceful, you are at ease working directly in factories and customer laboratories.
- Technology Curiosity: Eager to discover new technologies and AI, including microscopy, image analysis, and machine learning.
- Communication: Able to synthesize, document, and communicate clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Client-Facing Skills: Strong interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor when working with customers.
- Autonomy & Organization: Organized, autonomous, and comfortable operating in a fast-moving startup environment.
- Travel: Willing to travel frequently to customer sites.
- Languages: Professional fluency in English, spoken and written, is required to work with our global customers.
You do not need to have worked on exactly the same technology as us. We care about scientific depth, intellectual curiosity, ownership, and your ability to solve difficult problems.
- Play a key role in deploying a cutting-edge microbiology technology in real industrial environments.
- Enjoy a varied role with no routine, balancing field missions, lab work, and innovation.
- Have a direct and concrete impact on product quality and customer satisfaction.
- Travel and meet industrial leaders around the world.
- Join a multidisciplinary team of microbiologists, engineers, data scientists, and product experts.
